Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 13,1912.
Application flied September 17, 1910. Serial No. 582,588.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RnUnnN S, Conminn, of New Bedford, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, a citizen of the United States of America, have invented a new and useful Picture-Suspension Bar for Hanging and Suspending Pictures and Mir- :ors, of which the following is a specifica- My invention relates to im rovements in picture suspension barsand as particular reference to a device for hangin or suse fike without the use of wire, cord, string or like means.
My invention has for its object the provision of a device of the character described which will be capable of hanging and retainin pictures, mirrors and the like, inde en ent of wire, cord or string.
ther objects of m invention are the rovision of a device 0 this kind which will e extremely simple in construction and inexpensive of production and which will ef-- fectually secure the picture or mirror in position upon the wall.
To attain the desired objects my invention consists of a picture suspension bar of the character and for the purpose stated emembodying novel features of construction and combination of parts for service substantially as disclosed herein.
Figure 1 represents a side elevationof, my anger applied to' the molding and frame to illustrate the manner of using the device. Fig. 2 represents a front elevation of the icture han er, and Fig. 3 represents a deta view of t e portion of my device which is connected to the frame.
In carrying my invention into effect I employ a strapl of material formed at its upper end wit the hook C to engage the usual picture rail, thence with the angular down and inwardly extending portion B and from said portion B extends the main vertical portion, A, at its lower. portion formed with t 0 large curved loop D, which at its upper end terminates in the rightangled portion G, the inclined termina which is formed with an eye or opening H to receive a screw or fastenin the device with the picture me.
It will be observed that the device in its entirety is secured to the picture frame in 'a rigid and vertical position with reference to the picture frame, 'and that the loop and right-angledterminal give the proper angle to the picture and that the vert1cal main bar rests upon the wall formin a broad, long, firm sup ort and brings t e suspension hook in-t e exact, place to engage the usual rail.
By means of my hanger, the picture can be instantly hung in the proper place and cannot ossibly c ange its osition, but, can be quic y removed when esired; also the picture can be supplied with my hanger applied at the sma est fraction of cost and save a great amount of trouble in hanging; also. the single article takes the place of screws, cords and haners now used and provides a more simp e, inexpensive and practical substitute.-
I claim:
1. 'A picture hanging device, consisting of a-single piece of metal having a'hookat one end to engage the picture rail, a main.ver tical bar to rest flat against the wall to support the frame, a wide curved loop to give the proper position to the frame, and a portion bent atright angles to the loop part and terminating in an attaching memfor connecting be'r or eye at right-an les tothe said port-ion for connection with t e frame.
2. A picture hanging device, consisting of a piece of metal having a hook at its upper end to engage the picture rail, an intermediate vertical portion to rest flat against the wall to form a support, a wide curved loop having a portion bentlat ri ht angles to the outer side of the loop an terminating in an attaching member or eye adapted to receive a fastening to connect the hanger to the frame, the shape of the loop giving to the connectin terminal the proper inclination to hang t REUBEN S.
