SANITARY ATTACHMENT FOR DRINKING-GLASSES.
. Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented A ng. 6, 1912.
Application filed March 18, 1912. Serial No, 683,4,82.
To all'wh'om it may concern:
' Be it known that I, LUTHER Mc'NAm, a citizen of the United States, and residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sanitary A ttachments for Drinking-Glasses, of which the following 1s a specification, such as will tom of the front enable those' skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to sanitary'attachments for drinking glasses, cups, goblets and the like, and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class, which may be easily attached to, and detached from an article of the class specified,
Whenever desired, and which is intended to prevent the lips or any part of the mouth from coming in contact with the glass, cup or goblet in the operation of drinking.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification of which the accompanying drawing forms a part in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters 1n each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is an inside or front view of my improved attachment;Fig. 2 a back view of the attachment showingthe same connected with an ordinary glass or goblet. Fig. 3 a sect-ion on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 a section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2, and ;Fig. 5 a view similar to Fig. 3, but showing a modification.
My improved drinking glass attachment a involves a frame composed of spring wire, or a spring rod or of any other suitable material, and comprises an inner or front yokeshaped member 12 which opens upwardly, and an outer or back yoke-shaped member a which opens upwardly, and the sides of which are divergent and connected at the top as shown at d to form side loops 6 which open downwardly.
The side parts of the outer or back yokeshaped members a are connected bya transverse plate f, theends of which are preferably folded around said side part as shown at f?, but this connection may be made in any desired manner, and connected with the top edge of the transverse top plate f is a flexible sheet 9 of rubber, or other suitable material which is carried down to the botyoke-shaped member 5, and secured thereto as shown at 9 this connection beingpreferably made by a tubular plate f,
and in practice the back transverse plate f is preferably made of two thicknesses, and the sheet 9 is secured between said thicknesses as shown.
In the form of construction shown in Figs. 1 to 4 a downwardly directed spring tongue 71. is secured to and centrally of the bottom of the back yoke-shaped member 5 of the device, and this spring tongue h aids in holding the attachment in position when in use. The side yoke-shaped members 6 which open downwardly are provided at the top thereof, and on the inner sides thereof with transverse flexible sheets 2', similar to the sheet 9, which are secured thereto in any desired manner, and which extend downwardly to the top edge of the transverse and to the top fold of the sheet 9, and in the use of this device it is connected with a glass, cup or similar article j as shown in Figs. 2, 3 and 4, the top edge of the glass or cup, at one side thereof, being passed upwardly into the device or between the side loop or yoke-shaped members ein such manner that the sheet 9 will be on the inner side of the glass or cup, and the plate f on the outer slde thereof in which position of said parts the tongue it will bear on the back or outside of the glass or cup, and hold the attachment in. position, and in the operation of drinking the transverse plate f will come in contact with the bottom lip, and the sheet 9 with'the upper lip, and the yoke-shaped side members 0, at the top thereof, and the sheets i secured thereto will guard the sides of the mouth or the ends of the lips, and prevent the same from coming in contact withthe glass.
The construction shown in Fig. 5 is the same as that shown in Figs. 1 to 4 inclusive, except that the spring tongue 71, is omitted, and in practice the device maybe made sufficiently elastic to hold it in position on the glass or goblet without the use of the spring tongue it.
In the construction shown in Figs. 1 to 4:, the bottom of the yoke-shaped member I) is divided centrally, and provided with angle members is, which extend upwardly, but in the construction shown in Fig. 5 these angle members 70 extend downwardly and bear on the outer side of the glass or goblet, but this construction, also, is immaterial, as the frame of the device may be made sufficiently elastic to hold it in position.
clamp as shown,
. verse plate and a in and modifications of the form and construction of the'device, as herein described,
may be made, within the scope of the ap-' pended claims without departing from the spirit'of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent,is:-
1. A sanitary attachment for drinking glasses, goblets and the like, said attachment comprising a frame composed of front and back yoke-shaped members which open upwardly, and the sides of which are connected to form side yoke-shaped members which open downwardly, the back yoke shaped member being provided with a transexible sheet connected with the top of said plate, and with the bottom of the front yoke-shaped member.
2. A sanitary attachment for drinking. 7
glasses, goblets and the like, said attachment comprising a frame composed of front and back yoke-shaped members which open upwardly, and the sides of which are connected to form side yoke-shaped members which open downwardly, the back yokeshaped member bein provided with a transverse plate and a exible sheet connected with the top of said plate, and with the bottom of the front yoke-shaped member, and the tops of the side yoke-shaped members which open downwardly being also provided with transverse sheets.
In testimony as my invention I have signed my name in presence of the subscribing witnesses this 11th day of March 1912.
LUTHER McNAIR.
