Be it known that I, MARY P. Bnnorrnn, a citizen of the .United States, residing at Bristol, in the county ofHartford and State of Connecticut, have invented new and useful Improvements in Covers for Coal-Hods, of which the following is a specification.
v This invention relates to covers for coal beds or similar vessels, and has for an object to provide a cover which can be readily adjusted to an open position and held in such .position when it is desired to fill the .receptacle with coal or to empty'the ashes therefrom. v

Fig. 2 is a section on line 22 of Fig. 1. l The coal hod 1 herein shown may be of any suitable well known construction and configuration, and as illustrated, it is provided at the top with spaced alining ears 2.

The cover 5 may be constructed of sheet metal or any other suitable material and it is preferably provided witha flange 6 which is adapted to embrace the top of-the receptaclewhen the cover is in a closed position. At one end, the cover is curled around the pintle, as shown at 7 being soldered or otherwise secured thereto in some well known obvious manner so that on movement of the pintle the cover may be opened or closed. At one end the pintle is extended to form a small crank handle 8 v which extends downwardly against one side.

It will of course be understood that the walls of the receptacle 1 are somewhat springy .so as to permit of the efiective engagement of the handle 8 in 1 1 groove orthe disengagement of the same therefrom.

A coal hod, a cover therefor, a pintle soldered to one of the transverse edges of the cover and pivotally engageclin the walls of the coal hod, the outer walls of the coal hod having a groove therein, and a handle formedon the pintle and adapted to engage in the groove to hold the cover in an open position. i v
