Description

PATEFFF OFFICE.4
LEONARD 1). vEiowARD, oF sT. JoHNsBURY, vERMoNT.
IMPROVEM ENT IN SAW- BUCKS.
Sp'ecification'forming part of Letters Patent No. 103.335, dated May 24, 1870.
To aZ whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, LEONARD D. HowARD,
of St. Johnshury, in the county of Caledonia 'and State of Vermont, have invented a new and usefullmprovement in Saw-Bucks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full,
clear, and exact description thereof, which Will enableothers skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification. i s
Figure 1 is an end view of my improved saw-buck, part being broken away to show the construction. Fig. 2 is a detail sectional view of the same, taken through the linexx, Fig. 1. 'This invention relates to saw-bucks; and it consists in improved means for fastening together the halves thereof.
The saw-buck is formed of ltwo frames, A and B, one of which, asA, is formed a little shorter than the other frame, as B, so that said frame A maybe received within thesaid frame B. 'The side bars of the shorter frame Aare connected to each other and held in be sawed off or injured by the said saw while being used. The side bars of the other or outer frame, B, are connected to each other and held in their proper relative position by a single flat cross-bar, b', attached to their outer sides near their lower ends, as shown in Fig 1. The side bars of the two frames A B are .pivoted to each other by two short rivets, screws, or bolts, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a plate, O, being interposed between the two side bars of the two frames A B at each end of the saw-buck. The plates O have holes through their centers to receive the screws, bolts, or rivets by which the two frames A B are pivoted to each other. The ends of the plates Care bent in OPPOsite directions, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, to form flanges or supports to receive and support the outer sides of the two sidebars at each end of the sawbuck when said saw-buck is opened| out for use. By this construction the saw-buck, when not in use, may be folded up into a compact form, for convenience of storage or carriage.
Having thus described my invention, Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The plates O, combined with short bolts, to
-unite two halves of a saw-buck, as set forth.
. LEONARD D. HowARD.
