Description

H. ZIMMERMAN.
BRACKET.
APPLICATION FILED AUG. s, 19o7.

' wvewtoz UNITED STATES HARRY ZIMMERMAN, OF FREMONT, OHIO.
BRACKET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 9, 1909.
Application filed August 3, 1907. Serial No. 386,988.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY ZIMMERMAN, a citizen of the United States, and residing in the city of Fremont, county of Sandusky, State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brackets, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to brackets, particularly to that form of bracket used for supporting the brace rod of a shutter bower, and consists in constructing such brackets so as to secure a maximum of strength with a minimum of weight while reducing the cost of manufacture.
In the accompanying drawing-Figure 1 is a perspective view of a bracket embodying my invention; Fig. 2, a plan in part section; Fig. 3, an end view; Fig. 4 is a perspective view showing another form in which the bracket may be made.
The bracket consists essentially of two members A, B, each bent at right angles to form a cheek piece 2 and a base piece 3. The check pieces may be of any of the forms shown, or of any shape desired, and are adapted to support a cross bar or pin 4.
It will be seen that each member may be stamped fiat out of a flat sheet of metal, and
then finished by bending on a line to bring the parts 2, 3 at right angles, thus avoiding expense of manufacture, while the article is strong and of ready application to the support by screws which serve in most cases to connect the members together.
The connecting pin 4 may be surrounded by a sleeve 19 which serves as an additional brace for the cheeks 2.
Without limiting myself to the precise construction and arrangement shown, I claim 1. A bracket consisting of two separate members each bent to form a base piece and a cheek piece, the base pieces constructed to overlap and provided with coinciding openings, and the cheek pieces separated and parallel to each other, and a cross piece con necting the cheek pieces at their outer ends.
2. The combination with parallel cheek pieces of a bracket, of a connection between the cheek pieces consisting of a hollow sleeve bearing at its ends against the inner faces of the cheek pieces, and a rivet extending through the cheek pieces and sleeve and connecting all together as set forth.
In testimony whereof I afiiX my. signature in presence of two witnesses.
HARRY ZIMMERMAN.
Witnesses KATHERINE DICK, MATIE BISNETTE.
