LEE D. HINCHER, OF SI-IOALS, INDIANA, ASSIGNOR- T0 HINCHER MANUFACTURING 00., INCORPORATED, OF SHOALS, INDIANA.
DISPLAY-RACK.
Application filed October 22, 1912. Serial No. 727,103.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LEE D. HTNGHEE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Shoals, Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Racks, of which the following is a specification.
, This invention relates to improvements in display racks.
My improvements relate particularly to the type of racks having standards or uprights and bars extending between the same for the support of clothing and the like.
The main object of this invention is to provide an improved display rack which may be shipped in the knockdown or disassembled condition and quickly and easily set up by the user, and one which, when set up, is very strong and rigid and has a complete and finished appearance.
Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification.
The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which: Figure I is a perspective view of a structure embodying the features of my invention. Fig. II is an enlarged detail vertical section on a line corresponding to line 2-2 of Fig. I. Fig. III is an enlarged detail vertical section one line corresponding to line 3-3 of Fig. I. Fig. IV is a detail perspective view of one of the bars with a coupling member thereon.
In the drawing, similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views, and the sectional views are taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines.
Referring to the drawing, the standards 1 are provided with cross arms 2 at their. upper ends and braces 3, the braces being provided with casters I.
The rack bars 5 are mounted on the cross arms 2 of the standards. The bars 5 at the lower end of the standards are bracing and supporting bars but are the same and proclearly shown in vided with the same coupling members as the supporting bars 5.
The coupling members 6 are provided with threaded sockets 7 at their outer ends for the bars 5'which are threaded at both ends. At their inner ends, the coupling members are provided with bosses S squared or otherwise shaped, to receive a wrench. The coupling members are also provided with threaded axial openings 9 at their inner ends adapted to receive attaching bolts. The coupling members are suitably conformed to abut the sides of the standards and to provide an ornamental finish for the ends of. the bars.
The standards are provided with seats 10 for the bosses 8 of the coupling member. The intermediate upright is provided with pairs of oppositely disposed coupling mem bers, a single bolt 11 threaded at both ends securing the two coupling members. The coupling members of the outer standards are secured by bolts 12- arranged through the standards from the outside of the same, as F ig. III.
In practice, the racks are shipped in the knockdown with the coupling members assembled on the central standard and on the outer ends of the bars. In assembling, the bars are screwed into the sockets on the central standard by means of a wrench on the bosses 8. The outer standards are then secured by means of the bolts 12.
It will be seen that a wrench is the only tool required. The structure when assembled is very strong and rigid and has a finished appearance.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A rack comprising end standards and an intermediate standard; bars threaded at their ends; coupling members having threaded sockets for said bars at their outer ends and bosses at their inner ends adapted to re ceive a wrench, the inner ends of the said coupling members being threaded to receive attaching bolts, the standards being provided with seats adapted to receive sai bosses, the intermediate standard having opposed seats, there being a pair of such coupling members disposed oppositely in said seats on said intermediate standard, a bolt Patented Feb. 2, 1915.
" turned with a wrench engaged-with the threaded-at each end ,arranged through said arranged through saidend standards from the outer sides thereof and threaded into thecoupling members at the outer ends of the bars.
threaded at their end having threaded sockets for said bars at their outer ends and bosses-attheir'inner ends adapted to receive a wrench, so that a bar with a coupling member' thereon ma):b be oss of a couplingmembe'r, the inner ends of the saidjcoupling members being axially] threadbolts, the
edto receive standard attaching v I standards beingprovide'd With's'e'ats adapted at its end;
to; receive said bosses; and bolts arranged through said standards and threaded into said coupling 1nember's;
3 1 Ina structure ofthe class described, the
c'ombination'with a standard; afbar threaded l g a coupling member having a threaded socket at its outer end. adapted to receives-aid bar and acentrally'di'sposed boss atits inner end adapted to receive a'wr'ench so that-a bar with a couplingmember there onmay be turned with a wrench engaged with the boss of a I inggathreaded socket at its outer end 2. A rack comprising standards; bars v s coupling members coupling member, and" 21 bolt arranged through said standard and threaded into said socket,-.said standard being provided with a seat for said boss.
In astructure of the class described, the combination with a standard; a bar threaded at its end; a coupling member havadapte to receive said bar and a centrally disposedboss at its inner end adaptedto receive a Wrenc ber thereon-may be turned wlth a wrench enof a coupling member,
and a bolt arranged through said standard inner ends-*of-said coupling members being axially threaded to receive an attaching bolt; and a bolt threaded at each' end arranged through said standard and" threaded into said coupling members: 7
