To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that I, MALINDA EDDIE BnowN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pine Bluff, in the county of Jefferson and State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Lnprovements in Button-l asteners, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to buttons and the principal object of the same is to provide the button with a novel type of attaching means which is so constructed that the button may be secured to the goods without cutting or tearing the goods and permitting the button to be removed when desired. lVith this type of securing means the button may be removed and the goods will not be inj ured.

This type of button is very good for use upon buttons which are of such a character that they would be injured by being put in the wash, such as fine pearl buttons, and the like, which are easily broken.

This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:

F ig. 3 is a perspective view of the clip used in connection wit-h the securing means. Fig. 1 is a plan view of the blank from which the plate portion of the securing means is formed.

Referring to the accon'ipanying drawings it will be seen that the button 10 is'provided with a neck 11 upon which the plate 12 is secured by means of the rivet 13. The plate 12 is formed from the blank 14, which is shown in F 1. The blank is bent upon the dotted lines 15 to provide overhanging end portions 1.6, the end portions being provided with tongues 17, thus forming the seats 18. The plate is curved longitudinally, as is clearly shown in Fig. 1 so that the securing clip will be securely held in position. The securing clip shown in Fig. is pro-vided with arms 19 which terminate in outwardly extending feet 20. The clip is formed from resilient metal so that the arms may be pressed in order that the feet 20 may pass beneath the end portions 16.

of the clip are pressed together and inserted beneath the end portions 16 of the plate 12 between the tongues 17. WVhen the clip is released the arms expand and draw the goods beneath the end portions of the plate so that the button will be securely held in position. It will be noted that the clip is of such size that it will fit snugly into the seats 18, and will be prevented from slip ping out of the seat by the tongues 7. It should also be noted that by having the plate 12 curved the plate forms a spring so that if the button is used upon a coat which fits tight the coatwill fit between the inner face of the button and the portions of the plate which overhang the button, thus securely holding the coat fastened. This device would be of use if the button hole were slightly too large for the button. When it is desired to remove the button so that the button may be used upon another garment or may be removed so as to place the gar ment in the wash the clip is compressed so that the feet may be withdrawn from beneath the end portions 16 of the plate and the goods can then be withdraw from under the end portions 16 and the button will be released from the goods. There has thus been provided a simple and efficient device of the kind described and for the purpose specified.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is:-

l. A button provided with a neck extend ing from the inner face, a plate mounted upon said neck, said plate being longitudinally curved and extending beyond said neck, the end portions of said plate being doubled back and positioned in spaced relation above said plate, tongues extending from the ends of said plate, and a clip formed from resilient material having arms adapted to fit and be positioned between said tongues, and provided with feet fitting beneath the end portions of said plate.

A button provided with a neck extending from its inner face, a plate secured to said neck, said plate being formed from resilient material, and being longitudinally curved throughout its length, tongues extending from the ends of said plate, the end portions of said plate being bent to form overhanging flanges, and a securing clip fitting beneath said flanges and between said tongues to force a piece of material beneath flanges for connecting a piece of material said flanges to secure said button in place. with said plate- 10 3.
