ing means, tion for provided a tachment. of
.nts of this class which are dinr tabs for the atand to provide out of such tabs so as tin thereon more evenly the garment and thereby preventwri mg or distortion of the garment by :51 ch strain. These objects are accomplished by the device shown in the accompanying jlrawings, in which- Figure .l a frontview of an infants undergarmc it uting a specific embodiment of cl vention. Fig. 2 is a. frontelevation of on of the breast flaps thrown back to illust :rrangei'nent of the 1 stud and socln I; ng devices. Fig. 3 is a rear elevation .n the same.
In the form shown in the drawings, the garment is of the variety which has wide side flaps 1 and 2, which overlap each other across the entire front of the garment to form a breast portion of double thickness throughout sui tantially its entire area. Dependim pi hing flaps 3 and 4 for supporting a diaper or other nether garment are attached to one of the side flaps l and the back 5 of the garment at an elevation considerably above the lower edge of the garment, the upper edges of the pinning tabs being reinforced icy strips 6 of relatively stouter material, which insure a distribution of the stra upon the pinning tabs horizontally t l "tout a considerable part garmentf The outer at i, the slot ext-ending I ance substantially equal to the width of the pinninglap and at an elevation (l t-c l opposite the upper edge of the tree )E the flap 3. The edges of the slit 7 are [forced by a stitlcning strip 8 of material similar to the strips (3; so that to distribs so over the rba horizontan Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 823,477.
when the tab 3 is threaded through the slit 7, a downward strain upon the tab will be equally distributed between the flaps 1 and 2. Each of the free marginal edges of the side flaps 1 and 2 is provided with one or .more fastening devices located to interfit with fastening devices on the adjacent part of the other side flap. These fasteners are preferably studs 9 on one of the flaps, haw ing resilient iuterfitting relation with sockets 10 on the other Gap,
in operation the garment slipped upon the child in the same manner as a coat and after-snapping together the fasteners at the free marginal edge of the inner flap, the tab 3 is threaded through the slit 7 and then the fasteners at the free marginal edge of the outer flap are snapped together. Now both of the flaps 3 and 4 are on the outside of the garment in convenient position for attachment to the nether garment. The fasteners are preferably located above the level of the tab 3 and slot 7, and assist in distributing the strain of the tab 3 over both of the flaps 1 and 2, and coiiperate with the slits 7 to insure that said flaps will rem main flat and unwrinklcd under the strain upon the tab 3.
There is considerable advantage in providing pinning tabs 3 and 4 of stronger material than the material of the garment itself, and in spacing them above the lower edge of the garment, illustrated, since when so made they have much less tendency to wrinkle the material of the garment. It will be seen from the drawings that the insertion of pins into the flaps 3 and 4 will have little or no tendency to cause wrinkling of the parts of the garment which are below the points of attachment of said pinning flaps.
Although but one specific embodiment of this invention is herein shown and described, it will be understood that some of the dctails of the construction shown may be altered or omitted without departing from the spirit of this invention, as defined by the following claims.
I claim 1. In an infants undcrgarmcnt the combination of a pair of overlapping front flaps, each substantially equal in width to the width of the back of the undcrgarmcnt, a depending tab secured to one of said flaps ubstantially midway between its edges and adapted to have other garments attached thereto, the other said flap having a slit therein adapted to register with said tab and have it passed therethrough when said flaps are superimposed, whereby the strain on said tab is distributed over both of said flaps, and reinforcing strips of relatively stiffer material secured to said front flaps around said slit and the attached end of said tab.
2. In an infants undergarment the combination of a pair of overlapping front flaps, each substantially equal in width to the width of the back of the tindergarlnent, a depending tab secured to one of said flaps substantially midway between its edges and adapted to have other garments attached thereto, the other said flap having a slit said slit and the attached end of said tab, 25
and fastening means respectively located adjacent to the marginal edges and fold of said flaps and spaced apart above said tab and slit.
Signed at Chicago this 21st day of April 30 ARNOLD A. FANTII'X.
