HARRY Fr. LOOMIS, or NEW YORK, n. Y., assreno T0 FRANK & LAMBE T, Inc, or NEW YORK, N. Y., a CORPORATION on NEW YORK.
DISPLAY-BOX.
Application filed February 21, 1912.
1'0 tall whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY T. LOOM-IS, a citizen of the United States, and residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display- Boxes, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in. the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to display boxes designed for use as receptacles for, and as means for displaying burial robes or garments, and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class, particularly designed for displaying burial garments for men, but which may be used, if desired, for other purposes.
The invent-ion which forms the subject matter of this application is an improvement on that describedand claimed in U. S. Letters Patent 656,723, granted to me, August 28, 1900, and said invention is fully disclosed in the following specification of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which z- Figure 1 is a plan view showing my improved display box with the cover removed ;-*Fig. 2 a partial section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1, and ;-Fig. 3 a sectional detail on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
In the practice of my invention I provide an oblong rectangular box a comprising a bottom part a a top part or cover (1 and the bottom part a is provided within and around the top portion thereof, with reinforcin side strips a, and corresponding reinforemg end strips a.
For the purpose of this description the end a of the box or the bottom part thereof will be called the head end, and the end a the foot end, and secured to the foot end of the bottom part of the box, and centrally thereof is a folding strip or member 7) preferably composed of card board or other fibrous material, and said strip is of a width approximately half that of the box, whereby open spaces 0 are formed at each side of the bottom part of the box and range longitudinally thereof, and connected with the free end of the strip 7) is a transverse rod (Z, the ends of which are provided with finger mem- Specification of Letters-Patent.

bers (l at right angles thereto, and adapted to enter sockets or recesses (Z in the reinforcing side strips a of the bottom part of the box.
The length of the strip 7) is preferably less than half the length of the box, or the bottom part thereof, but the length of said strip may be lncrea-sed or decreased with in certain limits; and by means of the construction described the rod. (Z is made detachable, and the strip I) may be folded backwardly, as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 2, whenever desired. I have also shown within the bottom part of the box, a complete set of burial garments including, a shirt front 0, a. vest (2 a coat 0 and a pair of trousers c and the legs of the trousers are folded over one upon another, and in the use of my improved display box the legs of the trousers are secured to the bottom of the strip I) at two different points or as indicated at e and e in Fig. 2, and when the strip Z) is extended as shown in Fig. 2, the complete suit of garments will be clearly shown, as will be readily understood, and as indicated in Fig. 2, and when the strip Z) is folded as shown in Fig. 1, the legsof the trousers, and the central bottom part of the skirt of the coat and a part of the sleeves of the coat will be covered by said strip, the ends of the sleeves being partially exposed, and being provided with cuffs g which may be seen when the strip 6 is folded, as clearly shown in Fig. 1.
My improved display box may be made of any suitable material of any preferred size, and it will be understood that the cover a forms a complete closure for the box for packing and shipping purposes, but said cover may be removed for display purposes whenever necessary.
\Vith my improvement the garments within the box and especially the trousers will be held in proper form at all times and when it is desired to use said garments no pressing or ironing thereof will. be necessary.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A display box of'the class described comprising a bottom part, and a removable top part or cover, the bottom part being provided one end thereof with a folding strip which is secured thereto, and which is provided at its free end with a transverse rod adapted to be detachably connected with the opposite sides of said bottom part of the box.
2. A display box of the class described comprising a bottom part, and a removable top part or cover, the bot-tom part being provided at one end thereof with a folding strip which is secured thereto, and which is provided at its free end With a transverse rod adapted to be detaehably connected with the opposite sides of said bottom part of the box, said folding strip being of less transverse dimensions than the box.
3. A display box of the class described comprising a bottom part and a removable top part or cover the bottom part being provided at one end thereof with a folding strip Which is secured thereto and which is of less length than the box, said folding strip being provided at its free end with a transverse rod the length of Which is approximately the same as the Width of the box, said rod being provided at its ends Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents,
