To all whomtt may concimi Bc it known that we, J AMES 4F, DUFFY and W1L- LIAM'P. FRAILEY, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have 'invented anew and useful Improvement in Spring Bed-Bottoms; ,and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled iu the. art to make and use the same, reference being had t-o the accompanying drawings forming part-of this specification.

lhis invention relates to a new and useful improve- -ment in bed-bottoms, whereby they are made elastic e andcurable, and so that their several parts may be easily taken apart'for transportation and repairs; and

The inventionl consists inconstruction and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter more fully described. In the accompanying drawing'- Figurel is a top or plan view.

Figure 3 is a view ot' a spring detached. Similar letters ot" reference indicate corresponding parts. -A A represent frames, made of hoop-iron, consisting of longitudinal and transverse pieces crossing each other at right angles, and riveted together, as seen in the drawing.

In form and size these frames aremadeto correspond witli the hedstead on which they are used.

Between these frames, the springs B are placed,

more or less in number, and arranged in any in'annen to best sustain the weight upon them. v

These springs are connected with the frames; so as to be readily detached therefrom.

The frames are provided with but-tons at each point of connection with the springs, and thev springs are provided with button-holes, in the form of key-holes,

which allow the heads or buttons to pass through the round orifices, while the slots extending therefrom receive the necks ofthe buttons, which, while it secures the springs in place, 4allows them to be readily de'- tached.

The'form of the springs isseen in fig. 2. v.lhey are connected to the upper liame A at the upper curve by the buttons C.

The ends of the spring approach each other on the bottom frame, where they are connected at each end by buttons E.

K represents stays or rods, which connect the up? per and the lower frames of the middle section. These stays cross each other, as secu in iig. 2, at each side. They arev attached by means of the screws which connect the wooden fra-mes, as seen in the drawing, and serve to prevent lateral motion. They are designed to be snficiently elastic to allow compression ot' the springs B.

The springs B are made of a single piece of metal,

with short curves L at the extremities of each, as seen. 'lhese small curves extendoutward from the circumference of the spring circles or curve at the points most distant from the point-s of connection with the frame, and add greatly to the strength and elasticity of the springs.

The advantages of this mode of construction are, it makes a verystroug bed-bottom and the sustaining power is proper y distributed.. tln'oughout, making it in sections, and soas to be readily taken apart, which is a great advantage in shipping and transportation. 'Y

Having thus described our invention,
