Be it known that l, Louis Bosi, a subject of the King of Italy, residing at Hawthorne, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drafting- Pens; and l -dohereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description oi the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

rlhis invention relates to new and useful p used by draftsmen, and the object of this invention is to combine a pen of this characterwhereby new blades of the pen may be inserted with ease when the old ones become worn, and which may be easily and readily cleaned.

A further object of this invention is to provide a pen of this character which will be inexpensive to manufacture, durable and elicient in use and readily operated.

With the above and other objects in View, this invention consists in the novel construction, combination, formation and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

In the drawings: Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal section through my improved pen; Fig. 2 is a similar section taken at right angles to Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a sect-ion through the handle or holder; and Fig. t is an elevation ot the operating stem the lower portion thereof being in section.

Referring more particularly to the drawing; the numeral 1 indicates a handle or holder of the pen of general tubular construction and consisting of two sections 2 and 3, the upper section 2 having a threaded reduced portion adapted to be inserted in a threaded socket in the upper portion of the member 3, whereby the two members may be held together. The upper portion of the member 2 of the handle is reduced in diameter as at 4, on which is rotatably mounted a knob 5. Each of the members of the handle are provided with a centrally located longitudinally extending aperture 6, which-is to receive a pen supporting stem 7. The upper end of this stem is threaded as at S on which -is mounted the knob 5. The lower end of the section 3 of the handle is provided with an enlarged square portion 9 having a recess lO formed therein of the same coniiguration, which is to receive the enlarged end portion 11 of the stem 7.

The enlarged end 11 at the pen supporting member is provided with two downwardly oppositely extending arms 12 which are connected at their lower terminals by a transverse bar 13. The pen proper is comprised of two blades 14, which are formed from one piece of suitable spring metal and have the enlargement 15 formed on the inner face in the center of the pen, which is adapted to rest in the sliding block 16, whereby the blades may be held at equal distance on each side of the pen. The sliding block 16 may be raised or lowered through the medium of a screw 17 whereby a new pen may be inserted when the old one becomes broken or worn. By placing the stem 7 within the handle or holder of the pen and turning the knob 5, the enlarged portion 11 will be raised and the recess 10 formed in the lower portion of the handle and the sides of the enlarged portion 9 will obviously push the blades together, thereby holding' them in the proper position when being used. It will be further seen that by turning the knob 5 the blades of the pen will be easily and readily opened or closed, thereby permitting the blades to be easily cleaned.

It is to be understood to those skilled in the art, that I may resort to any minor details of construction which seem to improve my drafting pen and that come within the scope of the appended claims.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and Letters Patent is 1. In a draft-ing pen, the combination with a tubular holder, of a longitudinally movable pen supporting member therein, the ends of which being bifurcated, a transverse bar connecting said bifurcated ends, a movable block supported between said bifurcated ends, a pen consisting of two blades flexibly connected together, mounted on said block, and a screw mounted in said transverse bar for raising and lowering said block whereby the said pen may be clamped in the operating position, substantially as described.

In a drafting pen, the combination with a tubular handle, of a movable pen supporting stem mounted therein, a bifurcatcd enlargement formed at the lower end of said desire to secure by stem, a transverse stationary bar interposed between the arms of said bifureated enlargement, and a clamping block adjust-ably mounted on said bar.

3. In a drafting pen, the combination with a tubular handle, of a movable pen supporting stem mounted therein, a bifureated enlargement at the lower end of said stem, a. transverse bar interposed between the arms of said enlargement, said bar being of less Width than the width of the arms, and a pen blade carried by said enlargement and spanning said bar.

4C. In a drafting pen, the combination with a tubular handle, of a pen supporting stem mounted therein, a bifurcated enlargement formed at the lower end of said stem, a transversebar interposed between the arms of said enlargement, a screw threaded in said bar, a movable block swiveled to said screw and adjustable between the arms of the enlargement aforesaid, and a pen blade adapted t-o beelamped between the enlargement and said block.
