CURTAIN POLE.
Patented June 18, 1912.
APPLICATION FILED 11017.20, 1911.
ULWW- ailsTA sraTnnT @lf El@ -1 CURTAIN-POLE.
specification of Letters raient. t Patented June 18, 1912. Application led November 20, 1911.
Serial No. 661,431.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, ANDREW Rnwr, citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, State of Maryland, have invented cer'- tain new and useful Im rovements in Curtain Poles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in curtain poles or supporters and has for its object to provide a simple and eiflcient device of this character which may be cheaply manufactured and by the use of which the curtain may be hung easily and quickly and adjusted to the required height, the device doing away with rings, and similar accessories.
For a full understanding of the invention and the merits thereof' and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction, reference is to be had to the. following description and accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure l, is a plan view of the device with parts shown in section. Fig. 2, is a front elevation with a part removed to show the interior construction.
Referring to the drawings in which similar parts are referred to by the same reference numerals, 4 designates a pole which as shown is of circularl contour in cross-section and is provided with a clamping section 3, removably and adjustably secured thereto.
The clamping section 3, is provided with latch members 5, 5, each latch having a plurality of fingers for reasons which will presently appear. The latch members are rigidly secured to the member 3, and project through openings provided therefor in the member 4. Communicating with said openings are longitudinal recesses also formed in the member 4, and in which are seated the bolts 6, 6, adapted to cooperate with the latch members 5, 5.
The bolts are provided with operating arms 9, 9, which project through elongated slots formed in the end'portions of the pole, the arms terminating in finger pieces by means of which they can be manipulated. The bolts are housed in the longitudinal recesses by plates 12, which latter have upturned ends 8, 8, which serve as bearings for the outer ends of the bolts. A spring?, encircles each bolt and being secured at one end to the bolt and bearing at its other end against the up-turned end of the plate 12, tends to normally press the bolt into engagement with the latch member 5. The plate 12, is perforated for the passage therethrough of the latch 5, and arm 9.
Slotted closure plates may be placed over `the elongated slots in which the arms 9, op-
erate and these plates may be secured by tacks 13. A convenient way of forming the pole consists in cutting the same upon a central line as at 14; one of the parts so formed is again cut to form the adjustable clamping member 3, and the end pieces. The end pieces may be secured permanently to tllle member 4, by means of screws 15, or by g ue.
In using the device the curtains are properly Edraped and placed within the cutaway port-ion of the member 4. The clamping member is then placed in position thus normally clamping the curtain between the members 3, and 4. The purpose of the plurality of fingers on the latches is to provide for curtains of different thickness.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. In a curtain pole the combination of a member cut away at a part intermediate its ends to form a recess and having perforations, a clamping member within such recess, latches secured to said clamping member, and projecting through the perforations, with spring-pressed bolts carried by the said rst named member Yand adapted to cooperate with the latches, substantially as described.
2. In a curtain pole the combination of a member having its body cut away at a point intermediate its ends to form a recess, and provided with perforations, a clampin member within said recess, latches secure to said clamping member and projecting through said perforations, a plurality of fingers carried by the latches, with springpressed bolts carried by the said irst named member and adapted to coperate with any pair of ngers, substantially as described.
