Description

G. SGHRDEL.
TOY GUN.
APPLICATION FILED DBO.2, 1911.
Patented June 11, 1912.
Il TED OFFICE.
GEORG soHRDEL, or NREMBERG, GERMANY.
TOY GUN.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORG Scrrnnnn, a subject of the German Emperor, residing at Nuremberg, in the Empire of Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in rI`oy Guns, of which the following is a specification.
In toy guns or pistols in which an arrow or other projectile is expelled by means of an extension spring which is maintained cocked by a locking arm on the trigger, it has been proposed to so arrange this eXtension spring that it controls the trigger.
N ow the present invention resides in so arranging the extension spring that a portion of the same is always maintained in its relation to the trigger which it controls. By this means the result is attained that even after the extension of the portion of the spring which acts as an extension spring the trigger still remains under spring pressure without the utilization of a separate spring contrary to what is the case with the known toy weapons in which the trigger rocks freely to and fro when the extension spring has extended.
A toy gun with two barrels is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is a longitudinal section through the weapon. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the lower barrel. Figs. 3 and t are cross sections on the lines A--B and C-D in Fig. 1.
The frame b provided with an extension a is formed in one piece with one of the barrels c. As hereinafter described the other barrel m is fixed to the frame b. The trigger levers d e are mounted on the pins n, the extension springs g bearing on the arms e of these levers. The sears f are arranged on the trigger levers. IVhen the springs are pressed back by inserting a projectile in the barrel owing to the pressure of the spring acting on the arm e the sears engage the lower edge of the projectile and thus hold the spring g cocked. In order to prevent the extension spring from protruding from the barrel when the trigger is pressed a cross pin 7L is inserted between two convolutions of the springs g. The rear portion of the springs located between the pin h and the arm e of the trigger lever therefore retains its tension when the projectile is fired and acts as a trigger spring which presses the sears upward. Owing to this arrangement separate trigger springs which necessitate Specification of Letters Patent.

making the trigger mechanism very high can be dispensed with thus rendering it possible to arrange two barrels immediately one above the other.
For the purpose of fixing the lower barrel m two downwardly projecting lugs z' of the frame are provided with a semi-circular channel 7c in which the barrel m is inserted. The barrel is held by the pin u which passes through the lugs Z on the barrel and the lugs z' on the casing Similar projectiles such as two arrows or projectiles of two different kinds can be fired from the two barrels for example an arrow from one barrel and a ball serving as target for same from the other barrel. The lower barrel m comprises at its mouth a kind of cup p for the reception of the ball. The percussion bolt r is located in the barrel and comprises at its lower end a notch s and a nose 1f with which the sear f is able to engage. By means of a web c which passes through the longitudinal slot u in the barrel the percussion bolt is connected with a displaceable ring w surrounding the barrel m and serving to guide the bolt. Beneath the cup 22 an elastic ring a of indiarubber or the like is arranged and serves to absorb the shock of the bolt.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is l. In a toy gun, in combination, a trigger mechanism, a spring for discharging a projectile when said trigger mechanism is actuated to release said spring and means for preventing extension of a portion of said spring and for maintaining same in contact with said trigger mechanism on the discharge of said projectile.
2. In a toy (run, in combination, a main frame, a barre integral with said frame, a second 'barrel fixed to said frame, trigger mechanism, springs in said barrels for discharging projectiles when said trigger mechanism is actuated to release said springs and pins passing through said barrels and said springs for preventing eXtension of portions of said springs and for maintaining same in contact with said trigger mechanism on the discharge of said projectiles.
3. In a toy gun in combination, a main frame, a barrel integral with said frame, a second barrel fixed to lugs depending from said first barrel, projectiles adapted to be inserted in said barrels, triggers pivoted to said frame, sears forming part of said triggers adapted to engage with their respective projectiles, springs in said barrels for discharging said projectiles, When said triggers are actuated to release said springs and disengage saidY sears, arms extending from said triggers on Which said springs rest and pins passing through said barrels and said springs for preventing extension of portions of said springs and for maintaining same in contact With said arms of said triggers on the discharge of said projectiles.
l. In a toy gun in combination, a main frame, a barrel integral With said frame, a second barrel xed to said trame, a projectile adapted to be inserted in one of said barrels, a cup at the mouth of the said `second barrel to receive a second projectile, a striking bolt, means for guiding said bolt,
triggers pivoted to said frame, sears on said triggers adapted to engage With the first of said projectiles and said striking bolt, springs in said barrels for discharging said projectile and said bolt when said triggers are actuated to release said springs and disengage said sears, arms extending from said triggers on Which said springs rest and pins passing through said barrels and said springs for preventing extension of portions of said springs and for maintaining same in contact with said arms of said triggers on the discharge of said projectiles.
In testimony whereof I aiiiX my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
