To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, PRYOR I-I. HIOKLE and LORENZA D. SPEAK, citizens of the United States, residing at Choate, in the county of Karnes and State of Texas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Plowshare Attachments, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to plowshares and has for an object to provide a point for attachment to the front end of the plowshare, the point being removable from the plowshare when the point becomes worn so that a new one can be easily and quickly replaced on the plowshare.

Our invention embodies an attachment which a farmer can easily attach to the plowshare without the annoyance and delay caused by taking the plowshare to a blacksmith to have the same repointed, our attachment primarily constituting a point and being removable from the plowshare so that a new point can be replaced on the plowshare when the old point becomes worn, the operation of replacing a point being easily and quickly accomplished on the field where the plow is employed.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings constituting a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views, and in which- Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective view of a plowshare showing our device attached thereto. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the poirit removed from the plowshare. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 33 in Fig. 2. Fig. 4: is a perspective view of a modified form of our device. Fig. 5 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 55 in Fig. 4.

Referring more particularly to the views, we provide a point 10 consisting of a top plate 11 and a bottom plate 12, the said plates being similar in shape and having their sides tapered downwardly to form a blunt point 13. The plates 11 and 12 are rigidly connected by rivets 14: and the upper end of the bottom plate 12 is bent outwardly and away from the top plate 11 to form an opening 15 in which an end 16 of a plowshare 17 is slidably received, apertures 18 be ing formed in the top plate 11 and adapted to'register with apertures in the plowshare so that suitable soft rivets can be passed through the mentioned registering apertures to retain the point 10 in rigid engagement with the plowshare. By simply cutting away the soft rivets extended through the apertures 18 and the apertures in the plowshare, the point 10 can be easily removed from the plowshare when the point is worn out and a new point is replaced, the new point being secured to the plowshare in the manner heretofore described.

In Figs. 4 and 5 we disclose a modified form of our device and in which we provide a point 20, consisting of a top plate 21 and a bottom plate 22, the mentioned plates being rigidly connected by rivets 23 passed through the lower ends of the plates and the said plates being tapered at their lower ends to form a blunt edge 24:. The upper end of the plate 21 is extended upwardly a distance beyond the upper end of the plate 22 and the upper ends of the mentioned plates 21 and 22 are tapered to form tongues 21 and 22 as shown in Fig. 4:, the upper end of the plate 22 being bent outwardly and away from the plate 21 to form an opening 25, suitable rivet holes 26 being provided in the plate 21 near the upper end thereof.

In the application of the device shown in Figs. 4 and 5, to a plowshare, the point 20 is slidably engaged with the outer end of the plowshare so that the plowshare will be received between the plates 21 and 22, the plowshare being provided with apertures adapted to register with the apertures 26 so that suitable soft rivets can be passed through the mentioned registering apertures and rigidly retain the point 20 in engage ment with the plowshare as will be readily understood, the tongues 21 and 22 in engagement with theupper and lower sides of the plowshare being adapted to act as guides when the plowshare is engaged with the point and also adapted to properly position the point relatively to the plow.
