HYDROCARBQN-BURNER.
Specication of Lettersy Patent. v PatentedJune 11, 1912.
Application filed August 24, 1910. Serial No. 578,710.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT LIDDELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at ,Tecumseh, in the county of Johnson and State of Nebraska, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hydrocarbon- Burners, of which the following is av specification.
This invention relates to improvements in hydrocarbon burners and particularly to `a type of burner designed to be arranged this specification and in .which like numer-k als of reference indicate similar parts in the several views z-Figure 1 is a transverse section through a portion of the fire-box of the stove showing the application of the burner thereto. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the tray. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the cover.
My improved hydrocarbon burner comprises a tray 1 which preferably embodies a bottom 11, the downwardly and inwardly inclined wall 5, the vertical wall 6 and the downwardly and inwardly inclined walls 7 and 8. A longitudinally extending apron 12 is formed integral with the bottom 11, and as illustrated, the lower portion 12 thereof extends downwardly at an angle toward the' flared wall 5 of the tray. The upper edge of the apron is'spaced from the top of the tray, and as shown, fitting thereover is the inlet end of a liquid fuel supply pipe 15.
The tray is provided with a surrounding cleat 10 which is fitted in a correspondingly formed rabbeted portion in the bottom of the fire-box. A cover member 13 partly closes the upper, end of the tray, and as shown, it is provided with a dependJng apron 14 which extends in the direction of the flared wall 5 of the tra-y, the lower'edge of the said apron being spaced from the Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents,
' bottom 11, as shown.
The cover-forming member 13 is formed with a rib A by means of which the cover can be readily removed from the tray; y i v From the construction described it will be seen that the walls 5, 7 and 8 and the apronl form collectively a discharge nozzle B which is provided with a contracted or relatively narrow inlet C and a flared or relatively large discharge D, the latter opening directly into the fire-box. The inclined portion 12 of the lapron is disposed immediately beneath the discharge end of the liquid fuel supply pipe and it extends in the direction of the wall 5 so that the oil will be directed to the reduced inlet en'd C of the nozzle.
It will be understood that the fire-box is provided with the usual draft regulated openings (not shown) which provides for the required mixture of air with the oil to insure the proper combustion of the fuel.
Owing to the peculiar construction of the nozzle which, as hereinbefore stated; is provided with a relatively large or flared upper end and a relatively small or reduced lower end, the flame will be spread considerably immediately at its point of entrance into the fire-box.
I claim:
A liquid fuel burner comprising a tray having an upwardly and outwardly inclined wall, an apron formed on the bottom of the tray and having a portion inclined in opposite direction of the said inclined wall, a liquid fuel discharge pipe having its discharge enddisposed immediately above the said inclined portion of the apron, and a cover partly closing the tray and formed with a depending member which extends at an angle toward the said inclined wall of the tray, the said member having its lower end'spaced from the bottom of the tray.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses. i
ROBERT LIDDELL.
