To all whom it may concern:
Be itvknown-tliatfLy Erri; M. Locus7V a citizen ofthe United States of America, residing at Van Alstyne, county of Grayson, Texas, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Hydrocarbon-Burners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new and useful forni of improvement in an oil burner, and particularly a hydrocarbon fuel oil burner.
A purpose of the invention is to provide a type of burner highly useful and adaptable for household utility and general utility use for suburban homes and other places where gas is inaccessible. y
In this particular instance and forni of the invention it is a purpose to provide a hydrocarbon burner consisting of a rectangular base member upon which is aranged a pair of burner tubes in connection with certain contiol arrangements herein after described. y y
A further purpose of the invention is to provide an oil burner which will have an air regulating and controlling` means by which the air supply feed to the burners may be varied, thereby insuring a perfectly adjustable combustion mixture whether the burner device is used in an open grate, stove or strong draft chimney.
`Witli the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the certain form and combination and arrangement of parts and elements as described in the following specication, specifically pointed'out inthe appended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Fig. 2 illustrates the invention and present form of burner device in elevation, a portion of said illustri tion being shown in longitudinal sectional view. Fig. 3 shows the bottoni of the burner. Fig. 4 shows a cross sectional view taken upon the line el`4; of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken upon the line 55 of Fig. 1. Fig. 6 shows a bottom view of the burner device with a number of parts removed; particularly illustratinga certain form of slide valve used in connection with the burner.

nection with the burner base, by being secured and fixed to lugs 3, which lugs are integrally formed on the under side of the burner base and lie in fixed contact with the wall 2. A pair of U-shaped burner tubes 1l are arranged upon the base as shown in the illustrations and have connection with a fuel oil supply tube 5 whiclrfurnishes fuel from a reservoir conveniently located somewhere above the burner device but not here illustrated; Control valves G are included in the. pipe connections which feed the burner tube and each valve is provided with a hand wheel which insures easy control of the oil flow to said burner tube. Union con nection 7 is included in the pipe connections extending to the tubes which insures the easy removal of the burner tube when it may be necessary toV dismantle it for cleaning for other reasons. Burner caps S' are provided with a substantially small burner aperture or jet formed therein. An oil receptacle sump l0 is formed in the base beneath eachfburner cap and jet and is 5' formed there for the purpose of catching and retaining asmall supply of` fuel oil which may be burned in the sump and which burning will rgenerate the oil contained in the tube into gas to be consumed at the `iet.v

The upper extremities of the air nozzles are formed on an an# gle with the horizontal. Said air nozzles have their upper extremities inclined toward the burner `iet. rlhe nozzles are hollow in form and communicate with an opening formed in the base which arrangement allows the air nozzles to convey air from the internal portions of the grate or stove in which the burner may be installed to the point of combustion. A flame spreader or deflector disk il is carried by each burner tube and adapted to be arranged in horizontal position just above the burner jet. A slide plate l2 is provided in sliding contact on and against the underneath surface of the burner base. The said slide plate has its length and width substantially the same as the dimensions of the burner base and is adapted to have its edges positioned in con-L tact with the side walls 2. A pair of support members 13 are fixed to the side walls 2 and adapted to support the slide plate l2 in contact with the burner base. il slot lflisV formed iu the end walls as clearly illustrated in Fig. 6 and is adapted to admit ot the passage of a portion ot the slide plate there'- through. A rod member 15 with an upturned handle 1G is supported in a guide bracket 17 and has Fixed connection with the slide plate. The slide plate is provided With ears 18, Which ears are adapted to overlap the apertures or openings leading through the base to the open air nozzles which convey air to a point adjacent to the point of combustion or flame around and about the burner jet. By the use of the handle 16 the slide plate or valve may be moved along the burner base either opening or clos ing the two apertures of each set leading to the air nozzles or by proper adjustment the ooenings may be varied in size, thereby regulating the quantity ol air llowing upward through the air nozzles to the burner jet. An elongate-d slot or opening 19 is termed in `the slide Jlate admittinc` the unobstructed movement ot the slide plate along'the oil tube which passes upnf'ardly through trio base.
For economy in fuel oil consumption the vburners may be used independently one ot the other, the combustion mixture being regulated by the valve 6 and air regulating means as described. To place in proper burning conditi-on a small amount oi oil Will be admitted to the sump 1G and ignited after which the valve 6 will again be opened slowly until proper combustion takes place. l The invention is intended to include all suchmodications and changes as may proporly `come Within the purview oi the ini "eluded claims.
Claims. 1. ln a hydrocarbon burner, the combination With a base of a Jair of burner tubes 'arranged upon the base, a burner et carried Copies of this patent may be obtained for five by each burner tubo, air nozzles clustered about the burner jets, said air nozzles having an inclined position toward the burner jets, a slide plate held in contact With the underneath surface of the base, and projecting ears formed on the slide plate adapted to pass over and close the air nozzles.
2. ln a hydrocarbon burner, the combination With a base, of a pair of burner tubes arranged upon the base, a burner jet carried by each burner tube, air nozzles clustered about the burner jets, said air nozzles having an inclined position toward the burner jets, a slide plate held in contact With the underneath surface of the base, proj ecting ears formed on the slide plate adapted to pass over the air nozzles, and an upturned handle rod having connection with the slide plate adapted to vary the position of said slide plate.
3. ln a hydrocarbon burner, a base member, a downturned web or Wall formed on the base, burner tubes arranged upon the base and having connection with a supply tube, a plurality ot' air nozzles formed in the base and adapted to draw air from underneath the base through apertures formed therein, a slide valve supported under the base and in contact With said base and guided by the side Walls, a plurality of extended ears formed on the slide Valve and in line With the air nozzle apertures, a slot formed in the Wall adapted to allow the passage of the slide plate, and a Vhandle connected with the yslide valve.
