DRAWING AND MUSIC CASE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 28,1912.
Application filed March 14, 1910, Serial No. 549,345. Renewed January 29, 1912. Serial No. 674,385.
To all lwhom t may concern Be it known that I, JOHN Joao., a citizen of the Republicof Switzerland, residing at Hollywood, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented a new and useful Drawing and Music Case, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a case for holdf ing drawings, music or other rolls or sheets of paper or the like, and the mainobject of the invention is to provide a case with convenient and readily removable and replaceable cover.
The accompanying drawings illustrate the invention, and referring thereto :'-Figure l is a side elevation of the case. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section thereof. Fig. 3 is an end elevation. Fig. 4 is a partial plan of the handle.
The case is formed with a body member l and a cover member 2. The member l may be formed as a tube of brass or other metal having an extension 3 of smaller diameter at one end thereof, said extension being preferably o-f sheet steel lap jointed onto the body port-ion l and having a rounded end in simulation of a metallic cartridge. The handle means 5 is formed on the body member l and is provided with means for re` taining the cover member 2. Said handle member is preferably formed of sheet metal bent to form two loops 4, 5, the inner and outer ends of-loop 4 being secured to the body member and one end -ofthe other loop 5 being unattached to the body member leaving a space sufficient for the passage of cover member 2 between the handle member and the body member l which is cut away as shownat 6 to slide inside the cover member 2 and form a shoulder 7 against which the end of said cover member abuts. The outer or free end of the handle portion 5 is flexible and freely movable toward the body l and is provided with. a socket or opening 8 to receive and engage a pin 9 on the cover member 2 to retain the cover in place on the body. The flexible loop member 5 and the loop member 4 are exposed on their inner faces so that the hand comes in direct contact therewith when the case is being carried, and it is, therefore, possible by a slight movement of the hand, or one or more of the fingers, to lift the free end yofthe loop 5 Out of engagement with the pin 9 so as to release the cover member without disengaging the hand from the handle or necessitating the Vuse of the other hand in effecting such release. The two loop portions 4, 5 .of the handle member are preferably secured to the body portion l by means of a ring or ferrule l0, fastened on and surrounding said body member l. Said covermember i2" may be formed at its outer endkk with a roll or enlargement 11 in simulation ofthe rear end of a cartridge. v l Y In carrying the case several fingers of a hand are inserted through the loop portions 4, 5, of the handle and when it is desired to remove the coverk member, the loop portions 5 may be lifted slightly without moving the hand or fingers from the handle member, thereby disengaging the socket 8 from the pin or projection 9 on the cover member, enabling the cover member to be removed, by the other hand. The extension 3 being smaller than the cover member 2 may be telescoped thereinto in shipping the case.
Vhat I claim is A case for holding drawings or the like, comprising a body member, a cover member sliding thereon, and a handle on said body member comprising tw-o loop portions lone of which is secured to the body member at each end and the other secured to the body member at the inner end, the outer end of said second loop portion being free and flexible and provided with a socket, and said cover member being provided with a pro-Y jection for engagingwith said socket and said second loop portion being exposed on its inner face for operationV by the hand which is in engagement with the handle.
,In testimony whereof, I have hereunto setV my hand at Los Angeles,` California, this` 8th day of March, 1910.
JOHN JORG.
