MONROE E. HosTnTLER, or HARPER, KANSAS.
PERsoNAi. cooLER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, "MONROE E. Hosrnr LER, a citizen of the United States, residing at I-Iarper, in the county of Harper and State of Kansas, have invented certainnew and useful Improvements in Personal Coolers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to coolers, and more particularly to that class of coolers which are used for keeping persons cool on a hot night.
The objects of this invention are to provide a cooler which can be readily used in a bed or couch, and which can be disposed therein in a manner which will not inconvenience the sleepers.
A further object of this invention is to have the cooler so arranged that it can be easily filled with ice or other cool similar commodity and to arrange it so that the water from the ice will be directed to a suitable portion of the cooler out of contact with the ice. I
Another object of this invention is to provide means whereby the clothes or blankets which are used 011 the couch or bed will not come in close contact with the cooler body proper.
Other objects of this invention will become apparent as it is more fully set forth.
Referring to the drawings in which, Figure l'represents a view in perspective of a cooler embodying this invention; Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the cooler along the line 2-2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section along the line 33 of Fig. 1.
Similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the drawings.
In the construction which illustrates by way of example an embodiment ofthis invention 1 represents the main casing of the cooler which has a grate portion 2 disposed within its lower surface, and arranged to support the ice which is inserted in. the
cooler, and also to permit the water therefrom to flow through it to the lower portion 3 of the cooler.
Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed .Tune 28, 1911. Serial No. 635,897.
Provided in the end portion of the casing is a suitable cap or cover 4 adapted to permit ice to be inserted therethrough, in the cooler, the inner portion of the cooler is shaped in a suitable manner, and preferably of the form shown in the drawings.
The outer portion of the casing has a net work 5 mounted thereon, in order to prevent the blanket-or clothes of the couch or bed from coiningin close contact with the. cooler body proper. This network is supported on a suitable framework 6 which is secured to the main casing 1 in any suitable manner.
In use the cooler is placed directly in the bed and disposed as close to a person sleeping or lying downtherein, as convenient, the covering is then drawn over the person and cooler to keep the cooler from becoming hot or melting the ice therein too quickly, and at the same time keeps the air cool aboutthe person using the cooler and thus enables him to keep out of contact with the warm air experienced on a hot night, and thus proves a great convenience.
In filling the cooler one has simply tore-v move the cap and pour in the ice to be used, it will as it melts go to the lower portion 3 of the cooler and be in a condition for removal by removing the bottom of the cooler for this purpose.
It is, of course understood that it is not desired to limit this invention to the particular construction shown in the drawings, or in any way, otherwise than necessitated by the prior art, as many modifications in the construction of this invention may be made without departing from the principles thereof.
- Having thus described this invention it is claimed:
1. A personal cooler comprising in combination a casing, a grate disposed in said casing and near the bottom portion thereof and arranged, to hold ice and permit the water thereof" to flow therethrough, wire cloth disposed on said casing, and means for keeping said wire cloth away from the casing, so that an air space will be provided between the wire cloth and casing.
casing for permitting ice to be inserted into MONROE E. HOSTETLER. the casing, a net Work or the like disposed Witnesses:
on said casing, and supporting means for R. E. DRESSER,
keeping said net 'Work away from the said JOHN BAUnsTART.
