LEWIS R. SMILEY, OF BRADDYVILLE, IOWA.
CARTRIDGE-BLANK RECEIVER.
Speccation of Letters Patent.
` Patented May 28,1912.
Application filed November 13, 1911. Serial No. 660,017.
tridge-Blank Receivers, ot' which the following is a specification.
One ot' the principal objects of the invention is to provide simple, reliable and etlicient means tor receiving the cartridge blanks as they are ejected from the tire arm` after each cartridge has been discharged.
Another object ot' the invention is to pro vide a receiver for cartridge blanks as they are ejected from the tire arm in order to save the blanks for reloading.
ln many of the fire arms in use today, the cartridges may be readily reloaded at a saving of a large proportion ot' the original cost of the cartridges.
My nvention is designed for the purpose of catching the cartridge blanks as they are ejected. These and other objects may be attained by means ot' the construction illustrated in the accompanying dra-wing, in which f- Figure l is a side elevation ot an autopistol of ordinar construction having a cartridge blank receiver secured thereto, said receiver being made in accordance with my invention: Fig. 2 is a perspective viewY ot the cartridge blank receiver detached from the pistol; and Fig. El is a central vertical seetion through the receiver.
Referring to the drawing. the numeral 1 designates a p'istol ot a well-known type and coimcctmlat one side ot the magazine or breech ot' the pist-ol is a' cartridge blank receiver comprising a metal trame 2 of rectangular form having a fabric sack or receiver 3 connected thereto at its upper edge by means of suitable rivets 4:. 'The front edge ot the frame Q. is curved as at 5 to fit against the side of the magazine in position to receive the ejected cartridge. For securing the receiver in place. l have provided a lug G depending from the trame, said lug vhaving' a threaded opening 7 therein to receive a binding screw S.
From the foregoing, it will be understood that my cartridge blank receiver may be attached to any ordinary tire arm which ejects the cartridge and that the means for securing the device in place may be slightly modiy tied in form for the purpose of rendering the saine attaehable to different characters of fire-arms.
My invention is comparatively simple in construction, can be manufactured at low cost and will result in a material saving of cartridge blanks for reloading.
A cartridge blank receiver comprising a rectangular. metal frame composed ot' four strips of met-al, two of said strips having curved edges to titagainst the side ot' the tire arm, the bottom strip of said trame hav` ing a lug depending therefrom, said lug having a threaded opening therein to receive a binding screw for. attaching the-trame to a tire arm, and a fabric sack or receiver riveted to said frame tot' receiving the ejected cartridges.
ln testimony whereof l attix my signature in presence ot' two witnesses.
LllW IS R. SMI LEY.
