lle it known that l, I'IELUAN A. llunus, a citizen of the United States, residing at Napa, county of Napa, and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rifle Attachment-s for Shotguns;

and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same.

My invention relates to a rifle attachment adapted to be used in conjunction with shotguns; and it consists of the parts and construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and claimed.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a cartridge with an opening in one end large enough to admit a supplemental rifle-barrel. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the supplemental rifle-barrel. Fig. 3 illustrates the supplemental rifle-barrel in place in the car tridge and the rifle-cartridge in the barrel. Fig. 4 is a detail of a part of the cartrid showing the ej ector-sprin gs.

The object of this invention is to provide an attachment which may be used in conjunction with ordinary shotguns by simply inserting it into the barrel, so that it game is discovered upon which it is necessar I to use a rifle-ball the range and elfectiveness of the gun can be proportionately increased.

I11 carrying out my invention I employ a cartridge similar to that of a cartridge-shell and of any standard gage, the gage depending upon that of the gun with which it is to be used. This cartridge A is made of metal, preferably brass or other non-corrosive metal, soft enough not to injure the gun-barrel, and the opening a, which is usually provided for the cap or primer, is made much larger than usual and large enough to receive the supplemental rifle-barrel 13, which latter is held in place by any suitable and well-known means and is open at both ends, and is made of a good quality of steel or other metal. This barrel 1; has the rear end fitted into the hole a, while its opposite end extends through the cartridge and some distance beyond the front end thereof.

The cartridge has secured to its usual flanged head or rim the ejector-springs t, one on each side of the base of the rifle-barrel B, said springs being preferably of the form shown, and consisting of a member Z), secured to said head, and an elastic member 0, bent at an angle thereto and having its free end forked or adapted to engage the flange or rim of the rifle-cartridge when the latter is placed in position in its barrel l3. \Vhcn the said cartridge is pushed in place, its flange or rim contacts with the forked portions of the springs and results in the elastic or resilient members of the springs being pushed forward, and when the cartridge has been fired and the gun-breech broken the springs exert their power to start the empty cartridgeshell out of the barrel 1%, so that it may be grasped with the .i in go rs and entirely removed.

This attachment is simple, readily carried on the person, and quickly applied and removed, and in localities where game of different sizes is to be found it will be of great benefit to the sportsman.

liaving thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters atent, is-

The combination of a cartridge adapted to fit the gun-barrel, a rifle-barrel open at both ends and having its rear end fitted into the rear end of the main cartridge, and adapted to receive a ball-cartridge, and the ejectorsprings secured to the main cartridge and having their free ends in the path of and adapted to engage the rim or flange of the ball-cartridge, to start the empty shell thereof out of the rifle-barrel.
