To all whom 'it may concern:

Be it known that I, NATHAN SIFF, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Binding-Clips, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in selvage edge protectors and is more especially designed for use in connection with the ends of garment members, such as bands or belts.

In carrying out this object metallic clip members are employed which firmly bind the end of the band to be protected and in cases where two fabrics are employed, such as a separate cover and a lining member, said clips securely bind both of the same together and provide a finished permanent terminal construction.

The especial adaptation of the invention is made in connection with the bottom or buckle bands of knickerbockers or short trousers, such for instance as golf or other sporting apparel. There is further designed a straight clip for one end of the band while the opposite end, such as is designed for passing through the buckle member, is provided with a triangular form of clip.

With these general objects in view and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claim.

In the drawings forming a part of this application and in which like designating numerals refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views: Figure 1 is a fragmentary elevation of a buckle band upon the bottom of a garment and provided with my invention. Fig. 2 is a View of the ends of a band with the device secured thereto. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the blank of which the triangular clip is constructed. Fig. 4 is a view of said clip partially closed as in the attaching operation. Fig. 5 is a view of the blank forming the straight clip. Fig. 6 is a view of the same partially closed, and Fig. 7 is a transverse sectional view upon line 77 of Fig. 6.

Referring more in detail to the drawings,

the trouser leg 10 is shown as provided with the usual bottom or buckle band 11 encircling the same, said portion of the garment being overlapped, as at 12. The said buckle bancT at one end thereof may coincide with or slightly project beyond the edge of the fabric at the end of the opening and at such end is provided with a clip member 13, which is preferably constructed of metal, such as sheet metal which is capable of bending to adapt the clip for easy attachment to the garment. The opposite end of the band 11 is provided with a differently formed clip 14 also formed of metal and of substantially triangular shape when secured to the band, the blank however in both in stances being substantially rectangular as disclosed in Figs. 3 and 5. These terminal clips or selvage end protectors may be formed of such a metal or other substance which will not easily corrode or be affected by the weather or moisture and the same may also be suitably coated or plated.

The straight clip 13 being formed of the stamped out blank member is adapted to be folded over upon the longitudinal central axis 15 thereof as shown in Fig. 7, it being noted that all four edges of the blank are provided substantially the entire lengths thereof with mashed out sharpened projecting edges 16, which are formed in the cutting of the blanks. The longitudinal edges thereof are also provided with inwardlyprojecting prongs or teeth 17, which are continuations of and projections from said. edges and extend in the same direction thereas.

In the triangular clip member the rectangular blank is incised at two opposite corners 22 thereof, as shown in Fig. 3 and portions thereof are then bent inwardly, as shown in Fig. 4: until theopposite edges and surfaces are made to actually contact the band end, at which time the inwardly-projecting edges 18 with their prongs 19 will firmly impinge the fabric whether composed of one or more layers and will thereupon be permanently clenched thereto. In a similar manner the straight clip shown as partially closed in Figs. 6 and 7 will be clamped upon the opposite end of the band. The said edges 16 and 18, it will be noted, are sharpened or mashed out edges, so formed in stamping out the blanks and thus aid materially as a securing element.

From the above description the operation and advantages of my invention as designed for buckle bands for trousers are believed to be apparent. With the straight clip secured upon one end of the band and the buckle 20 fastened to the same end and adjacent said fastener, the opposite end of the band bearing the triangular clip 14, which end is left freely projecting in the usual manner, the same is easily threaded through said buckle and secured to the pin members 21 thereof and projecting therefrom said clip not only furnishes an easy means for threading the end through the buckle, but also presents a finished appearance to the structure, avoids the necessity of stitching or binding the end and effectually prevents raveling or a fraying out thereof.

While the forms of the invention herein shown and described are what are believed to be preferable embodiments thereof, it is nevertheless to be understood that changes may be made in size, form and minor details of construction without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention asset forth in the appended claim.

Having now fully described my invention and the manner in which the same is deslgned for use, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is A buckle band clip comprising a sheet metal member, said member provided with a mashed out sharpened edge projecting perpendicularly with respect to said member, prongs integrally-projecting from intermediate portions of said edge, and said member adapted to have portions thereof folded back upon itself for engaging said prongs and edge within opposite sides of said band.
