COMBINED STRAP AND DRINKING-CUP HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 21, 1912.
Application filed'February 29, 1912. Serial No. 680,759.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RUDoLr LUBLINTZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at- New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Straps and Drinking-Cup Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to a combined strap and drinking cup holder designed primarily for school use, the object being to provide simple and secure means for carrying a drinking cup that will always be available for use, and it consists in a strap having a closed loop, a cap to receive one end of the cup, secured to and within said loop, and a cup one end of which rests on the strap within the loop and the other end engages the cap.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a View showing the strap and cup holder, the cup being in place, Fig. 2 is a view of the parts the cup being detached, and Fig. 3 is a view in section through the cup and strap.
1 represents a book or bundle strap, and 2 a shorter strap secured at its ends to the outer surface of strap 1. The shorter strap is secured to the outer surface of main strap 1, and the loop formed thereby is of a size suilicient to comfortably receive the cup 3.
Secured centrally to the inner surface of strap 2 is the cap 4 which latter is made of metal and is provided with a depending peripheral flange 5 adapted to receive the larger open end of the cup, and by frictional engagement therewith hold the cup in position.
The loop formed by strap 2, is of such size, that, when cup 3 is within the loop and in engagement with its cap 4, it will be held against accidental displacement both when the strap is free, and also when attached to books or other articles. When the strap is free the cup 3 may be readily removed by simply pushing the main strap from under the cup, thus leaving the latter free to be extended or pulled out into operative position and be detached from its cup, 4, and when the strap 1 is secured around books or other articles, the cup may be detached by pushing it sidewise which causes the cap of the cup to pivot on the shorter strap 2, sulficiently to free the lower edge of the cup 3 from the main strap 1, little more force however being required to remove the cup, than when strap 1 is loose or free.
By this construction which is exceedingly simple and comparatively inexpensive, each child may carry his own drinking cup which will always be available for use when strapped to books, or free, and which, when in place, will be held against the possibility of loss or accidental displacement, and will be protected from dust and dirt.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is
1. As a new article of manufacture a strap having a loop and a cap secured within the loop and adapted to receive one end of a collapsible cup.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a strap having a flexible loop, and a cap secured at its center to the inner surface of said loop and having a peripheral flange adapted to receive and engage one end of a collapsible cup.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
RUDOLF LUBLINTZ.
