Description
waited gisten HENRY RENTCHLER; or BELLEVILLE, ILLINOIS.
Letters PatentpNo. 102,592, dated Mtl/y 3, 1870.
minovmvmn'r 1N OFFICE-REGISTER AND DIRECTQRY.
The Schedule referred to in these Letton Patent and making part of the same.
To 'whomit mag/concern: i
Be it known that I, HENRY RENTCHLER, of Belleville, in the county of St. Clair and State of Illinois,
have invented anew and useful Improvement in Oflice-Register, or Daily, Hourly, and Monthly Directery; and I do hereby declare thatthe following .is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', which will enable others'skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part of 4this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a front view of my'improved register, opened up, parts being broken away to showthe construction. p y Y Figure 2 isa horizontal section of the same closed.
My invention has for its object to furnish an irnproved device, simple in construction and convenient in use, for enabling business men and others to keep their memoranda of matters and things to be attended to, in such a shape that they can sec at a glance what they have'V to attend to, what engagements to keep, &c., for each day of the month, and for any hour of the day; and
It consists in the construction and combination of the "arious parts, as hereinafter more fully described.
A represents a standard or upright,'to the Vface of which, near each of its sides, is hinged a row of four arms, B, the arms B of each row being placed thc one above the other.
To the arms ofthe one' row are attached thirty-one staples, which are' numbered from one to thirty-one, to represents the days of the month, and which are designed to. receive the hooks C. l
The hooks C are designed to receive memoranda and other papers, andwhich are constructed with bends, as 'shown in iig. 1, to enable them to be attached to and detached from the staples, without removing the papers from said hooks.
YTo twoof the other row of four armsB are attached twelve staples, which are marked with the names of the months, as shown.
To the 'other two arms B of the second row arcatv-tached thirteen staples, which are marked with the letters of the alphabet, two letters to each staple, as shown in iig. 1.
The register is designed to be inclosed with a case, D, made with two doors, lll, so that the arms 'B and the suspended papers may be shut up when desired.
The case D may be divided into two compartments by a central partition, d2, if desired.
To one of the doors d1 is attached a dial, E, having twelve hooks, more or less, attached to it, and numbered to represent the `hours of the day.
lo the front of the case D is attached a dial, F,
having an outercirclc of thirty-one division-marks,
numbered from one to thirty-one, to represent the days of' the month, and upon an inner circle are placed the names of the months. uw To the center of the dial E are pivoted two hands,
G H, one to point to the months, and the other to the days, thus forming a perpetual calendar.
To the inner side of the other door d1 are attached two pockets, I J the one I to receive mail mattei' for the post-oliice, and the other to receive mail mattei" from the post-oflicc.
In using the register, the memoranda of business toV ,be attended to, or appointments to be kept, are suspended from the arms marked with the names of the months under their appropriate months.
At the beginning of each month, the memoranda belonging to that month are removed and distributed under their proper dates upon the arms marked with the days of the mont-h,so that, as each daycomes, the memoranda of thev business for' that day will be at When appoint-ments are made lor business is tobe attended' to at any particular hour of the day, the memoranda of such appointments are suspended from the hook marked with the proper hour.
The arms marked with the letters of the alphabet are designed for letters or other memoranda to be kept in alphabetical order.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- An improved ndice-register, consisting of standard A, hinged arms B, staples, hooks O, case D, dial E with hooks thereon, and dial l with hands G H, all said' parts being brought together, notated, and relatively constructed as and for the purpose described.
HENRY RENTCHLER.
