HAT AND GOAT HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May '7, 1912.
Application filed January 2, 1912. Serial No. 668,971.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FRANK PEARCE, a citizen of the United States, resident of Millers Falls, in the county of Franklin and State of Massachusetts, have made a certain new and useful Invent-ion in Hat and Coat Hangers; and I declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The drawing is a perspective view of the invention.
The invention has relation to hat and coat racks or hangers, and it consists in the novel construction and combinations of parts, as
hereinafter set forth.
In the accom an in drawin s illustrat- P 2; b a mg the mventlon, the numeral 1 designates a hanger having a shank or stem 2 provided at the lower end thereof with oppositely extending supports 3 for a coat; at the upper end thereof with an eye a for engagement with a support, and intermediately of its length with an outward extending arm 5 having oppositely extending downward projecting hook supports 6 for a hat. The hanger is formed preferably of a single piece of wire, starting at one end at the eye 4, extending downward to form the shank; thence outward and inward and outward and inward again to form the shoulder loops 3; thence upward around the stem in a coiled or twisted manner at 7, and outward again to form the hat hooks, the wire for these hooks extending first outward at 8; thence downward, outward, inward and upward to form one of the hooks; thence outward again at 9 in line with the part 8, and thence downward, inward, outward and upward to form the other hat hook. The arm formed by the parts 8 and 9 extends laterally and outwardly from the stem in substantially the same plane as the longitudinal center of the coat-supporting loops, and is located at least the height of a hat above said loops. The oppositely extending loops 3 fit within the shoulders of a coat, to support the same, and the brim of the hat is engaged in a sliding manner with the hooks 6, between the same and the part 9 of the arm located above the the hooks, the crown of the hat hanging downward between the arm 9 and the shoulder loops. The brim of the hat is confined in a secure manner between the hooks and the part 9 of the arm located above the hooks.
The invention is of simple and durable nature, capable of economical manufacture, and will well serve the purpose for which it is intended.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A hat-wire and coat hanger havinga stem provided with an upper eye, lower oppositely extending coat-supporting loops, an upper extension adjacent to said stem, and a laterally and outwardly extending arm located in substantially the same plane as the longitudinal center of said loops and at least the height of a hat above said loops, and oppositely extending downward projecting hat-supporting hooks formed in the wire of said arm and adapted to receive the brim of a hat between the same and said arm.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
FRANK PEARCE.
Witnesses:
