To all whom it may concern:

State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Feed-Troughs, of which thefollowing 1s a spe'clfica'tiony reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

In the accompanying drawings-Figure 1 is partly a plan and partly a horizontal sectional view of the feed trough provided with my improved guard or cover, the plane of:

section being indicated by the line a-a of mg. 2. same showing the guard in one position in full lines, and in another position in dotted lines. Figs. 3 and 4 are detail views.

The trough 1 here shown for the purposes of this specification comprises a pair of downwardly converging boards 2, which form the walls of the trough and a pair of end boards 3, which are disposed trans versely with respect to the boards 2, and secured to the ends thereof, the boards 2 being disposed medially of the end boards 3.

In accordance with my invention, I provide a pair of guiding and supporting arch bars 4 which form open rings and the ends 5 of which extend downwardly and are secured to the inner sides of the end boards 3.

At the center of the cover or guard on the outer side thereof, is a transversely disposed reinforcing strap 12 which is made of iron or other suitable metal and the ends of which are bent to form handles 13, which may be grasped and employed in shifting the guard to one side or the other of the trough, as may be desired. This strap 12, in addition to reinforcing the cover or guard, and greatly strengthening the same, also provides the handles by means of which the guard maybe operated. At the centerof the guard on its outer side near its ends,

While I have herein shown and described 'what I now regard as the preferred form of my invention, I would have it understood a that changes may be made in the. form,- construction and proportion of the several parts within the scope of my invention, as definedby the appended claim.

To look the cover or guard in either position, I provide a double hook 17, which is ivoted on'the center of one of the arch ars, and may be swung into engagement with the projecting end 11 of the rod 10. The trough may be of any suitable form. The guard may, if preferred, be made of corrugated iron.

I claim A device of the character described having parallel transverse end walls, a trough centrally arranged between said end walls, supporting bars of substantially circular form having spaced ends disposed in parallel relation and adapted to be secured to the inner faces of the end walls on opposite sides of said trough, each of said supporting bars having a pair of curved slots therein concentric with relation to the bars, each of said slots extending from the upper end slots in the respective supporting bars, and

the other studs on the ends of said guard being disposed in the lower ends of the other slots of the respective supporting bars,

and U-shaped guide members secured to the periphery of the guard at each of its ends and einbracingthe curved supporting bars to hold the ends of the guard out of frict-ional contact with said bars and prevent longitudinal movement of the guard therebetween.
