I 'nr-rno'rncron FOR snons.
To all whom it may concewt Be it known that I, TI-IbMAS L. VoRE, citizen of the United. States, residing at Jacksonville, in the county of J acksonand 6 State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tip-Protectors for Shoes, of which the following is a specification. 1
This invention relates to shoe protectors, 10 and refers particularly to a device for covering the tip. or forward end of the shoe.
An object of this invention is to provide a cap for the tip of a shoe which 'Wlll completely cover the same, and which may be' gllliickly attached to or removed from the The invention essentially comprises a preferably leather cap. engaging over I the tip of the shoe, the cap being provided at its sides and at its forward end with fastening devices engaging with the sole extension of the shoe.
For a full understanding of the invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which: p
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the protector as applied to a shoe Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section taken through the protector as appliedto the forward end of the shoe;
' and, Fig. 3 is an under side perspective view of the protector detached. 1
Corresponding and likeparts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all .the views of the drawing by the same reference characters. Y
Referring to the drawing, 10 designates an upper and 11 the sole extension of a shoe. Theimproved protector comprises a cap 40 portion or cover 12 conforming to the shape of the tip orforward end of the upper 10, and bein reinforced about its lower edges by.a bin ing strip 13. ,The cap or cover 12 is preferably formed from leather while the binding strip 13 is preferably of metal and is L-shaped transversely. The strip 13- is adapted to rest its horizontal ortion upon the extension 11 of the shoe and to fit closely against the upper 10 by its vertical portion.
-.A sprin band or clip 14 is attached to the inner e go of the cap or cover 12 andpro- Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed June 14, 1911-. serial No. 683,161.

inner bindingedge for the structure. The clip 14 has its ends turned in to provide the protector with attaching fingers 15 having toothed inner ends. The fingers 15 engage between the sole extension 11 and the inturned edge of the upper 10, and hold the cap 12 closely over the tip of the shoe. Connected to the binding strip 13 at its forward end is a holding finger-16 with its free end inturned and'serrated and adapted to be forced into the protruding portion of the sole'11, preferably between two of the lifts or layers of the sole material as shown in Fig. 2. The upper portion of the finger 16 is apertured for the reception of small nails, or the like, adapted to secure the protector to the sole extension.
The application of the device is apparent, since when, it is desired to apply the protector to the shoe the ends of the clip or band let are sprung apart while the cover I or cap. 12 is engaged over the tip of the shoe. The ends of the clip 14 are now released and the spring action of the clip forces 'the toothed fingers into the crevice between the sole-extension 11 and the upper 10.' The forward finger 16 is forced into the forward edge of the extension 11 when the fastening nails are securedthrough the finger 16to secure the protector upon the shoe. It will thus be seen that the protector can be readily applied to or removed from the shoe, and that it completely covers and protects the tip. I
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is: i
1. A tip protector for shoescomprising a cover forengaging over the tip, a binding strip L-shaped transversely and bearing against the lower edge of the cover and a apted toextend between the sole and the upper, and an attaching fingerconnected to v the binding strip and bearing over the sole and inturned for engaging between the layers of the sole of the shoe.
2. A shoe protector comprising a cap engaging over the forward end of a shoe, a binding strip carried upon the lower edge of the cap and ada ted to rest upon the sole extension of the s oe, an attaching finger carried midway of the ends of the attaching ends an strip at-the forward end of the cup for In testimony whereof, I afiix my signaongngeilent with -36 $01110 estensinin, m lld ture in presence of two Witnesses.
