CIGAR-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 16, 1912.
Application filed. April 20, 1911. Serial No. 622,306.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J AMES L. WVoLLEsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Crawford and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Cigar-Holder, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to cigar holders and its object is to provide a simple and inexpensive device of this character adapted to be inserted in one end of a cigar, said holder having a fiat portion so shaped as to be easily held between the teeth of the user, thus serving to prevent the user from inadvertently biting or chewing the end of the cigar and also preventing the cigar end from becoming saturated with saliva.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings the preferred form of the invention has been shown.
In said drawings :Figure 1 is a plan view on an enlarged scale, of the holder. Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is a section on line AB Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is an end elevation of the holder. Fig. 5 is a plan view of the holder applied to a cigar.
Fig. 6 is a side elevation of the parts shownin Fig. 5.
Referring to the figures by characters of reference 1 designates a substantially square mouth piece formed of any suitable material and having rounded corners, said mouthpiece being formed with transversely extending concavities 2 in the upper and lower faces thereof, said concavities being preferably roughened as by cutting grooves 3 or the like therein. A stem 4 extends from one edge of the mouth piece and terminates in an arrow head 5.
The mouth piece is preferably of a width substantially equal to the diameter of the Copies of this patent may be obtained for will thus engage the thereof, and means five cents each, by addressing end of the cigar to which the device is to be applied and it will be apparent, therefore, that the arrowhead 5 and the stem t can be pushed longitudinally into the cigar and will act to hold the mouth piece assembled therewith and close to the end of the cigar. Moreover the arrow head prevents the device from rotating within the cigar.
The holder is to be used by placing the mouth piece 1 between the teeth so that the teeth can rest in the concavities 2. The lips end portion of the cigar as ordinarily and as the mouth piece is the only part engaged by the teeth, it will be apparent that the user is thus prevented from biting 0r chewing the end of the cigar and said cigar 1s, at the same time, prevented from becoming saturated with saliva:
It is to be understood of course that the mouth piece can be made of other shapes than that described and illustrated but in every instance the upper and lower faces should be substantially parallel and provided with transverse depressionsor concavities for the reception of the teeth.
It is designed to make the holders of hard rubber, wood or any other suitable material and, as they are very small, they can be very cheaply manufactured.
WVhat is claimed is 1. A cigar holder including a mouth piece, a stem projecting therefrom, and a head upon the stem for insertion into the end portion of a cigar.
2. A cigar holder including a fiat mouth piece having transversely arranged tooth receiving depressions in the opposed faces extending from the for insertion into a cigar.
3. A cigar holder including a mouth piece having transverse depressions in opposed faces thereof, a stem extending from the mouth piece, and an arrow stem, said stem and arrow head being in sertible into one end portion of a' cigar.
