RAIL-CLAMP.
Application filed. August 23, 1911.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMIL H. Koncns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Moulton, in the county of Lavaca and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rail-Clamps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in rail clamps, and has particular reference to a device for preventing spreading thereof.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a simple and cheap construction of this character which will prevent the rail spreading.
Other objects and advantages will be ap parent from the following description and with particular reference to the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings :Figure 1 is a top plan view of the device in use. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section on the line 3-8 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, 10 represent the rails. Extendingbeneath the rails and therebetween are the bars 11 having on their meeting inner ends the oppositely arranged threads 12, a turn buckle 13 being engaged therewith. The outer end of each of the bars 11 is bent upwardly and inwardly as at 14 to embrace the outer portion of the base of the rail.
Slidably mounted on each of the bars 11 Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 9, 1912.
Serial No. 645,588.
is a sleeve 15 on the outer end of each of which is formed a finger 16 for engaging the opposite side of the base of the rail. The inner end of each of the sleeves 15 has an inwardly tapering bore 17 which receives the correspondingly tapered ends 18 of the turn buckle 13. Thus when the turn buckle is rotated the bars 11 will be drawn toward the center, and the sleeves 15 pushed outwardly so that the fingers 16 and the upwardly turned portions 14 will securely clamp the base of the rail, and hold the rails rigidly in posit-ion to prevent their spreading.
lVhat is claimed is:
An anti-spreading device for railways comprising a pair of bars threaded on their inner meeting ends, sleeves slidably mounted on the bars, rail engaging members on the outer ends of the bars, a rail engaging finger on the outer end of each of the sleeves, and-a turn buckle engaged with the threaded ends of the bars whereby upon rotation of the turn buckle the bars will be drawn inwardly and the sleeves pushed outwardly.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature, 1n the presence of two witnesses.
EMIL H. KORGES.
