TheV Schedule referred to in these Letten Patent and making part 'of the same.
` Shoes and other articles; and. I do hereby declare the following to be a. full, clear, and exact description there of, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, in whichqdrawing- Figure 1 represents, in vertical central section, a button made according to my invention;
.Figure 2 is a plan view of the washer;
Figure 3 is a section of a' modification of my.inven tion; and Figure 4 showsa plan view of the washer.
Figure 5 is a sectionof another modification; and
Figure 6 is a plan view of the washer used in connection therewith.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
My invention relates to buttonsv or fastenings of that class which can be attached ,to boots or shoes, or other articles, without the aid of sewing or riveting.
The letter A designates the leather or material to which the button is to be attached.
Theleather or material is perforated to receive the hook-shaped arms B of the stirrupshaped clasp O, the
-same being inserted, from the inside of the leather or material, as shown in the drawing.
`The ends of the arms B, after they are pushed up vthrough the material, are sprung throughthe slotted washer D, whose slot, E, extends a littledistance each side of a--tapped hole, F, in the center of the washer, the hooked ends 'of said arms catching over the top of the Masher attheends of the slot, so as to holdthem to the washer. y l
The letterG designates the button head, whose under side is recessed at H to4 receive the Awasher D, as shown in vfigure 1.
From the center of the said recess H there extends a screw, I, which screws into the tapped hole F of the washer, between the hooked arms B of the clasp C, in such a manner as to confine said arms in the slots of the washer, and so as to secure the clasp C, the washer D, the button-head G, and the material A to each other'.
In the modification, shown in igs. 3 and 4,'1 make the screw I, which extends from the bottom of the button head, of wire, bent doubleaud twisted together, so that the bent part J forms the head of the screw,
and the twisted part forms its shank, on which a screwthread is cut. The screw is connected to the button head by inserting it in a perforation of unequal diameter made through the center of said head, the upper part ofthe perforation being wide enough to receive the head J of the screw, and the lower part being only wide enough to receive its shank part, as is shown inv fig. 3.
lbe screw passs into the washer D between the arms B of the clasp Cjand locks the clasp, the washer, and the material to the button-head, in the same manner as already described.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isi The combination and arrangement of the buttonhead G, the washer D, and the clasp C, in such a man- 4ner that, on screwing the head G and the washer D to each other, the clasp O is also thereby secured, substantially as shown and described.
