IRONING-TABLE.

To all whom it may concern Be 1t known that I, ANsEL WILLIAMS, a

' citizen of the United States, residing at Fulton, in the county of Callaway and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ironing- Tables, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in ironing tables and has for its object to provide a simple and convenient table or stand which may be conveniently folded into small space when not in use and which can be quickly adjusted in position for use at the required height.

Another object of the invention is to provide an ironing table which will possess advantages in points of efficiency, durability, is inexpensive of manufacture and at the same time is simple in construction and operation.

With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, pointed out in the claim and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation; Fig. 2 is a top plan view; Fig. 3 is a rear elevation, and Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view showing the sleeve board in its operative position.

Referring more particularly to the drawings 1 indicates the ironing board, having the brackets 2 secured to the underside near one end thereof. To the outer side of the said brackets, near their rear ends, are hinged a pair of legs 3, the upper ends of which are spaced apart by means of the cross piece 4, and their lower ends are connected by a cross piece 5. To rigidly secure the cross-piece 4 to the legs 3 a steel plate 6is provided which is secured to the cross piece by the screws 7 and havmg its ends bent down at right angles to the body portion and extending down on the outside of the legs 3 to which they are adjustably secured.

Secured to the underside of the board near the rear end and disposed in the center thereof are two bearing blocks 8, havlng a leg 9 pivoted between said blocks and the upper end of which is adapted to be disposed in a longitudinal slot 10 formed in Specification of Letters latent.

the rear end of the board. The upper end of the leg 9 is provided with the notch 11, adapted to engage over the plate 6 and cross piece 4 at the upper ends of the legs 3. The leg 9 is provided with a series of openings 12 so that it can be adjusted to various heights as required. Each end of the plate 6 and the legs 3 are provided with a slot 13 in which the pivot pin 14 is disposed, and said pin being provided with a thumb nut 15 so that the cross piece 4 and the board can be adjusted to various heights and held in an adjusted position. Having one end disposed between the top of the cross piece and the plate 6 is a fiat-iron stand 16.

Pivotally secured to one side of the board 1 is a leaf 17 which is adapted to form a sleeve board adapted to be disposed in the recess 18 formed in the top of the board. This board is normally disposed in the recess 18 in the top of the board 1 and when the use of the board 17 is required it is swung outwardly and disposed at right angles to the main board and is held up in position by means of a swinging brace secured to the underside of the board 1. This brace comprises a bearing 19 secured to the underside of the board near the outer edge, formed integral with this bearing is a sleeve 20 in which is disposed a pivot pin 21 having the swinging bracket 22 formed integral therewith and adapted to swing in the slots 23 formed in the sleeve 20. Pivotally mounted on the bracket is a supporting arm 24 having an offset end 25 adapted to be disposed under the sleeve board 17. This arm 24 is held up in place by means of a brace bar 26 having one end pivotally secured to the bracket 22 and the other end adapted .to engage in a keeper in the form of a notch 27 formed in the arm 24.

The operation and advantages of my invention will be readily understood from the foregoing description taken in connection with the drawings. To set the board up for use it is only necessary to extend the legs 3 until the cross piece 4 will enter the notch 11 in the leg 9. This notch will prevent the accidental displacement of the legs 3 and hold the device securely when set up.

While I have shown and described the preferred form of my invention it will be obvious that various changes in the details of construction and in the proportions may be resorted to for successfully carrying my invention into practice without sacrificing any of the novel features or departing from the scope thereof.

Having thus described my what is claimed is:

The combination with a support, of a leaf pivotally connected thereto and arranged to swing out therefrom, a vertically disposed sleeve secured to and depending from the support and formed with upper and lower segmental recesses, a bracket including upper and lower arms and a connecting bar, said arms being received in said segmental recesses, a pivot pin mounted to turn in said sleeve and secured to said arms, a leaf supporting arm pivotally connected to said bracket to swing in a plane at right angles to the plane of movement of said invention bracket and formed with an ofiset end adapted to engage the leaf, said supporting arm being formed at its lower edge with a keeper, and a brace bar pivotally connected to the bracket underneath the pivotal connection of the supporting arm, the brace bar being pivoted to swing in a plane at right angles to the plane of movement of the bracket and having its free end arranged for engagement in said keeper, whereby to directly support the supporting arm and to assist in supporting the leaf.
