Be it known `that I, Fnlc'mcuick Guin, a citizen ot the `United States, residing at New York, county of New York, and State of New York, have invented certain'new and useful Improvements in .Envelops, o't' which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to envelops and the object of my invention is to provide an envelop which ma)7 be readily and quickly opened, but which cannot be opened without detection.

Other objects will appear hereinafter.

My invention consists in the envelop hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in theclaims and in the blank from which the envelopl is formed.

My invention will be more readily understood by reference to the aeeompanymgl drawing forming a part of this specification and in which- Figure 1 a view of the blank from which the envelopis formed, Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the envelop completely formed and illustrating the tiap'in open position, F ig. 3 is a iti-ont elevation of the envelop with the flap opened, and Fig. 4 is a similar view illustrating the saine closed and sealed and ready for mailing.

Projecting from one end of the portion 3 is a tlap 9. rl`his is quite short but extends the full uwidtli ol" the end of the front 3 and is provided with gum 10 by means of Specification of Letters Patent.

below a' line 12 in alinement with the end of the front 3 along which said tongue is folded forming a portion 13 which overlaps the adjacent end of the flap 4 and a closing flap 14. The edge of the portion 13 1s gummed as at 15 to secure it to the [lap et, thus completing the envelop. The tlap 14 is provided with an integral longitudinally extending tab 16 the purpose o1 which will be described. The flap 11 is gummed each side ot thetab 1G as at 1T and 17 for sealing the envelop, but `the gum is omitted opinas-itel the tab 1G as indicated at 1S in Figs. 1 and 8l After the envelop is closed and sealed the postage starnp 18 is attached to the lap 1st. and front S as indicated in .F ig. 4 so that the llap cannot be opened without disturbing the stamp. It preferred the gum 17 may be omitted as this end of the tiap is secured by the stamp. To open the envelop the tab 16 is grasped and given a sharp pull outwardly which will open the envelop.

The envelop herein illustrated and described is of simple construction, may be readily opened by the party to whom it is .sent but is proo't against opening without detection. On the outer tace ot the tab 1G is printed the word Pull together with an arrow to indicate the direction in which to pull the tab as shown at lt) in Fig. Il. It' desired a business card 20 may be printed in the usual place on the 't'ront ot' the envelop. It will be noted that with the eonstruction set torth the printing on lthe face ol the envelop anden the tab upon one side'onl \7 of the blank and that all o't' the v gum is arranged upon one face ofthe blank which 'facilitates printing and gunnning the same.

Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. In an envelop, a body portion comprising a frontA and a back, the `back consisting oitI a long and a short flap folded inwardlj` from opposite edges of the front and having overlapping gunnned edges, a tlap extending from one end of said tront and overlapping and gunnned to the adjacent ends of the back vflap and a tongue extending from the opposite end of the short back flaps and folded to form a portion which is gummed to the end of the long back flap and a closing flap, and a tab projecting from the .closing flap, substantially as described.
