To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE MGKLELLAN TROMBLEY, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at VVilmore, in the county of Cambria and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Poles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to curtain poles, and the objects of my invention are, first, to obviate the necessity of using rings or pins for connecting the upper ends of curtains and draperies to a pole; second, to provide a sectional pole in which the upper ends of curtains or draperies can be mounted without injury to the curtains or draperies third, to provide a curtain pole that will present a neat and attractive appearance in connection with a window, door or alcove frame, and fourth, to provide a curtain pole consisting of comparatively few parts, ineX- pensive to manufacture and highly efficient for the purposes for which it is intended.

I attain the above objects by a mechanical construction that will be hereinafter specifi cally described and then claimed, and reference will now be had to the drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of a pole in accordance with this invention, Fig. 2 is'an end view of the same, showing the cap or ornamentation shifted to one side, Fig. 3 is a cross sectional. view of the pole, Fig. 4 is a side elevation of a portion of the pole, showing the cap or ornamentation shifted to one side, and Fig. 5 is a plan of a portion of the sectional inner pole.

A curtain pole in accordance with this invention comprises two semi-cylindrical sections 1 and 2, these sections having the faces 3 thereof cut away to provide a longitudinal slot 4 extending from one end of the pole to the opposite end thereof. The confronting faces 3 of the sections 1 and 2 are provided with longitudinal grooves 5 adjacent to the slot 4, these grooves providing a longitudinal opening for an inner pole. The inner pole comprises two semi-cylindrical sections 6 having the flat faces 7 thereof connected by flat springs 8. The springs 8 have Specification of Letters Patent.

the ends 9 thereof mounted in the faces 7 of the sections 6, and the tension of said springs is sufficient to normally retain the inner pole in engagement with the upper ends 10 of ourtains 11 arranged within the opening provided by the grooves 5. The upper ends 10 of the curtains 11 can be easily draped over the sectional inner pole and then said pole can be placed between the sections 1 and 2, whereby the upper ends of the curtains 11 will be draped within the longitudinal slot 4.

The section 2, adjacent to the flat face 3 thereof, is provided with hooks 12 and engaging these hooks are staples or eyes 13, carried by the section 1, at the edge of the flat face 3 thereof. The hooks and staples 12 and 13 are preferably arranged adjacent to the ends of the sections 1 and 2.

After the sect-ions 1 and 2 have been clamped upon the sectional inner pole, retaining members or staples 14 are placed in engagement with the ends of the sections 1 and 2. The retaining members 14 have the ends 15 thereof detachably mounted in the ends of the sections 1 and 1, and these re taining members lock the sections 1 and 2 together, whereby the sectional inner pole cannot become accidentally displaced relatively to the sectional outer pole.

Eccentrically connected to the ends of the section 2 by screws 16 are caps or ornamentations 17 and these caps or ornamentations have the inner ends thereof recessed, as at 18 to provide clearance for. the retaining members 14, whereby said caps or ornament-ation can be easily swung into longitudinal alinement with the outer sectional pole, thus completing the appearance of the pole for ornamental purposes.

It is thought that the manner of assembling the various parts of the pole will be apparent without further description, and while in the drawing there is illustrated a preferred embodiment of the invention, it is to be understood that the structural elements thereof are susceptible to such changes as fall within the scope of the appended claim.
