UNITED sTATEs PATENT oEEIoE.
JOHANN SCHMITZ, OF COLOGNE-SULZ, AND HEINRICH SCHMITZ, 0F BRHL, GERMANY.
CURTAIN -POLE HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 1, 1911.
Application led August 26, 1909. Serial No'. 514,733.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOHANN SCHMITZ and HEINRICH SCHMITZ, subjects of the Emperor of Germany, and residents, respectively, of Cologne- Sulz and Brhl, Prussia, Germany, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Curtain-Pole Holders, of which the following is a speciication.
The object of our'invention is to provide a device of this class which will serve to adj ustably support one or more curtain poles as well as ornamental molding for concealing said poles, without in any manner marringr injuring the woodwork of the door or window-frame.
In the accompanying drawing, which illustrates an embodiment of our invention, Figure 1 is a front elevation of the upper part of a door or window frame with our invention applied ing omitted. Fig. 2 is a sectional plan view of the frame, showing the molding in place, and, Fig. 3 is a side view of one of the supporting brackets.
In these views the upper part of a window or door frame is indicated at l. Two supporting brackets, each consisting of a horizontal member 2, adapted to lie against the inner face of the door or window-frame, a vertical member 3 and a horizontal member 4 at right angles to the member 2, areV mounted in the frame and securely held in place by an extension bar, consisting of an externally threaded member 5 and an internally threaded member 6, the conical ends of said members engaging recesses formed in the horizontal members 2 of the brackets and forcing the same against the inner faces of the upright members of the frame.
Over the horizontal members 4 ofthe brackets are slipped the apertured members 7, which carry forwardly projecting arms 8,l
each provided with a longitudinal slotv 9. The rear faces of the members 7 bear against the front faces of the upright membersof thereto, the molding bej the frame. "In the slots 9 are mounted' Shanks l0 which carry heads provided with three or more upwardly projecting pins 11. The curtain poles 12, two of which are shown in the drawing, are extensible and are provided with eyes or loops 13 at their ends which fit over the said pins 11'. Over the front pin l1 is fitted the eye or loop 16 carried by the ornamental molding, which consists of two side members 14 and a central member 15, which permits of adjustments in its length. r
It will now be seen that our invention provides a curtain pole and molding holder which can be fitted into window or door frames of various size without defacing said frame in any way and that it further permits of adjustments in length of said poles or molding.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim is:
In a device of the class described, the combination of a pair of brackets, each comthe inner face of a door or window frame, a
vertical portion and a second horizontal' portion at right angles to the first-mentioned horizontal portion, means to force said first-mentioned horizontal portions against the said innerfaces, forwardly projecting arms slidably mounted on said second mentioned horizontal portions and provided with slots, slidable members in said slots carrying -upwardly projecting pins, and curtain poles and ornamental molding supported on said pins respectively, substantially as.described.
In witness whereof we have signed our names to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses..
JOHANN SCHMITZ. [La] HEINRICH SCHMITZ, [Ls] In the presence of,-
M. KNEPPERS, L. VANDORY.
