WlLLARD F. WILSON, OF WEST HOBOKEN, NEW JERSEY.
IMPRESSION-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed July 29, 1911. Serial No. 641,189.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VViLLAnn F. VILSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at. West Hoboken, Hudson county, New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful 1,1)1 provements in Impression-Holders, oi wh ch the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to an improved holding device for holding plaster and the like, for the purpose of obtaining impressions of teeth as well as the bite thereof.
The object of the invention is to provide a very simple and effective holding device for this purpose, which from a reading of the following specification and an examination of the accompanying drawings, will be seen to possess manyadvantages.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a plan view of the holder assembled with a block of 2 is a view of the reverse side ofFig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the holder. Fig. 4 is a plan view of one side plate of the holder. Fig. 5 is a plan view of the connecting element and the other side plate. -12 represent two side plates of proper design to embrace between them and hold the plastic material which is to receive the impression. The side plate 1 preferably has a handle portion 3. In the preferred form of construction the platcs-l-2 are connected by a U-shaped connecting member 4%, which preferably makes a sliding connection with each of the side plates 12, \vhere; by the connecting member may he slid 01? both plates after the impression taken, thus leaving the said plates free to be-easily removed from the plaster impression with 'out injury to the same. The plate 1 preferably has alongitudinal slot or groove 1*, and the side plate 2- preferably has a longitudinal slot or 'groove 2. These slots or grooves may enter from either end as desired, and the shoulders at the edges of said groovesconstitute a convenient support for a sheet of wax, which may be used to facilitate the separation of the upper and lower In the use of the device for obtaining the double would be inserted; in the aforesaid grooyes so as to stand horizontally. The plaster, in a proper condition, then applied above and below the wax, said plasteriii"? desired,
will be found that the bite overlapping and connecting slightly at the ends to hold the material in block. The holder is then inserted into the mouth at either side, as desired, since the connector for the side plates is located at the rear of the alveolar ridge, or rearn'iost teeth, it avoids interference and enables the one who is having thei npression taken to close down tightly. After the in'ipression is taken, it will occur along the line of the wax, and hence when the block renamed the upper and lower sections may be easily separated so as to give respectively an impression of the upper and lower teeth and alveolar ridge, in. the event of missing teeth, as weli as the bite of said teeth.
In various ways I appreciate that this construction which. I have described in its preferred form only, may be modified without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention.
In the drawings, I have shown the slide connection between the cgnn'iector 4 and the two side plates l:2 formed by a long flat eye 5 on the back of each plate through which the flattened ends of the connector proiect.
bowed connector for both-ct saidplates and arranged at one end thereof.
2. In any impression holder, two side plates for supporting between them material in which an impression is to be made, a bowed connector for both of said plates and arranged at one end thereof,'- and a detach ableconnection between said bowed connector and one of said plates.
'3. In an impression holder, 'two side plates for supporting between them material in which an impression is" to be made, a bowed connector for both of said plates and arranged at one end thereof, and adetaclr able connection between said bowed con-- nector and both of said plates.
4. In an impression holder, two side plates for supporting between themhiatrial.
Patented Feb. 27, 1912.
plates for supporting between them material in which an impression is to be made, at connector for both of said plates and urmnged at one end thereof, and a supporting shoulder extending horizontally in one of mid Jlates for supporting a sheet of wax or the like, said supporting shoulder being formed by a slot in said. plate.
6.' In an impression holder, two side members for holding between them material in which an impression is to be made, a bowed connector for side members 10 elated at the rear end of said side plates to leave the space between said plates free and on obstructed.
7. In. an impression holder, two side members for holding between them material in. which an impression is to he made, a. bowed connector for said side members loeated at the rear end of said side plates to leave the e ace between said plates free and unobstructed, and a slide connection be tween said bowed connector and both oi? said plates whereby said connector can be removed from said plate to free the same.
