GRAPE-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 20,1912.
Application filed July 22, 1911. Serial No. 639,996.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J ornv J. KLEIN, a citi: zen of the United States, residing at Scranton, in the county of Lackawa-nna and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Imprm'ements in Grape-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
An object of the invention is to provide a device for attachment to a door or the like for supporting a crape usually displayed by the undertaker in case of a death, the crape being neatly and gracefully retained in supporting position.
For the purpose mentioned, use is made of a flexible attaching plate, a supporting plate for slidably receiving the attaching plate and adapted to frictionally retain the same in engagement therewith and a face plate removably connected to the supporting plate and upon which the body of the crape is secured, the attaching plate being provided with means for connecting the same to a door or the like to support the crape Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings constituting a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views, and in which Figure 1 is a side elevation showing my device applied. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of my device, the crape being detached I therefrom to disclose the face plate, parts being broken away to disclose the underlying structure. Fig. 3 is a rear elevation, the attaching plate being removed from the supporting plate. Fig. 1 is a vertical sectional view of the face plate and supporting plate with the attaching plate connected to the supporting plate. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the attaching plate. Fig. 6 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line 6 6 in Fig 5, looking in the direction of the arrow.
Referring more particularly to the views, rovide a face plate 10 consisting preferably of a flexible material to which a crape 11 can be conveniently sewed or otherwise secured and the face plate 1.0 is connected to the front side of a supporting plate 12 by cotter pins 13 passed through the supporting plate and the face plate and having their outer ends bent in opposite directions to rigidly retain the face plate on the supporting plate. The supporting plate 12 preferably consists of an integral piece of material having portions stamped therefrom and bent rearwardly on the body of the supporting plate to form inclined guides 14, the said guides having apertures 15 formed therein for a purpose that will be hereinafter more fully disclosed. An attaching plate 16 is formed of an integral piece of body portion-l6 having sides 16 bent lat'-- orally to the body portion 16 with the edges 17 bent laterally to the side 16" so thatthe said edges will be in parallel relation to the body portion 16, but will be offset therefrom as shown in Fig. the sides 16 being preferably made flexible so that when the attaching plate is engaged with the supporting plate, the flexibility of the sides 16 will rigidly retain the attaching plate in engagement with the supporting plate. A plurality of pins 19 are extended from the outer side of the attaching plate 16 and a swivel plate 20 is mounted on the inner of the attaching plate 16, the swivel plate being provided at the ends thereof with slots 21, through which. are passed Tscpuring pins 22 securedto the body portion 16" to slidably retain the swivel plate on the attaching plate. in the swivel plate 20 anda swivel '24 provided with a handle 25 and a threaded end 26, is passed through the aperture 23 and extends through the attaching plate 16, a a retaining plate 27 being secured to the An aperture 23 is formed swivel 24, between the body portion 16" and the swivel plate 20 toretain the swivel 24 in engagement withthe swivel plate 20 as su ortin late 12, havin the face late pp 25 P 1: P
