JGHN SQUIER AND EZRA J. WARNER, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
LettersPatent No. 101,781, dated April 12, 1870.
IMPROYEMENT IN PICTURE-NAILS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it lmay concern .Be it known that we, JOHN H. SQUIR and EZRA J. WARNER, of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Picture Nails; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings tin-ming part of this specification, in whiehe Figure 1 represents' a `side view, partly in section, of our invention.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the same.
Figure 3 is a detail perspective view of the fastening.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The invention relates to picture-nails, and consists in the wire spring fastened in the porcelain knob, as hereinafter set forth.
A in the drawing representsthe porcelain knob or head, and
B, the wire fastening secured thereto.
This fastening is shaped similar to a letter W, with rounded angles, and has the ends a a projecting at right angles from its main body, as shown in fig. 3.
The en ds a of the wire are imbedded in the porcelain A while the same is being molded. The knobA and spring fastening B will thus constitute a substantial single piece.
` The nails or shanks C or screws D, which are to receive the knobs A, are provided each with a h'ead, b, and with a flange, e, some distance from the head, or with a mere grooved head, if desired.
After a nail or screw has been driven into a wall or other place, the knob is applied to it by fitting the middle loop of the spring fastening over the grooved part of the nail or screw, or over that part which is between the head b and flange c.
Instead .of being W-shaped, the wire spring maybe of other equivalent form.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A wire spring imbedded in the plastic porcelain- Witnesses Y GEO. W. MABEE, ALEX. F. ROBERTS.
