Description

H. M. NORTH. ATTAOHMENT FOR IRONING BOARDS.
APPLIOATION FILED OUT. 1, 1910 Patented Feb. 6, 1912.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HANNAH MAY NORTH, or oscoDA, MICHIGAN."
ATTACHMENT FQR jIRONING-IBOARDS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 6, 1912.
Application filed October 1, 1910. Serial No. 584,906.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HANNAH MAY NoR'rn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oscoda, in the county of Iosco and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Ironing- Boards, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to an improvement in ironing boards, being particularly directed to adjustable means supporting articles of unusual length'or width during ironon the line 22 of Fig. 1." Fig. 3 is an end view showing the notches in the bar of my devices.
Referring particularly to the accompanyin drawings, 1 represents an ironmg boar of any usual or preferred construc- 'ustment with relation to one edge of said oard, said frame being preferably constructed of wire and formed to provide a U-shape, having a su porting bar 3, of a length somewhat less t an the length of the ironing board and havi ably mounted in bearing locks 5 secured to tion, 2 is a sliding frame designed for ad-' side bars4 slidthe under surface of the board at appropriate points. The inner terminals of the bars 4, are'bent laterally to prevent the accidental disconnection of the frame with the ironing board. One or both of the bars 4;, are formed to provide a series of locking notches 6, and'there are secured on the under side of the board catches 7 in the form of a spring pressed lever, in the use of which the frame ma as will be obvious, "he held at any desire length of projection beyond the edge of the board.
In use as when ironing table cloths, curtains or the hke, the frame may be projected at any desired extent and in such projected position serves as a support for the extra len th or width of the material and keeps suc material from off the floor.
The improvement may be readily applied to any ironing board, and in use will prevent the ossibility of articles being ironed from reacliing the floor durin the ironing process.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new is The combination of an ironing board, a
U-shaped frame provided with a series of notches and having the ends thereof bent laterally outward bearingblocks secured to the said ironing board and having the said frame slidablymounted therein, and springpressed catches secured to the said ironin board and adapted to engage the notches o the said frame to adjust the frame relatively to the ironing board.
In testimon whereof I aflix my signature in presence 0 two witnesses.
H. MAY NORTH.
