1'2,- oZ/f whom it may concern:
lie it l-znoxvn that l, lfmnomcn lmrr, a clllZill oi the German Empire, residing at Wulen-onflu -lluhr, in the Province oi ll'esiphalia, Kingdom of Prussia, Germany, have invented certain new and useful linirovements in Slicing-Machines, of which the following a specification.
The welhknovvn slicing machines having a circular cutter revolving in a horizontal plane have in front of the circular cutter a la a'ing-on table and above the cutter a receiving table. The piece or material be shed mus therefore be grasped by the hand and pushed forward from the layingon table over the eilg's of the cuiier to the rel-e table and ilien be pushed back agaiz-i. Agart from themnsiclei'aliou that he grapsing of the piece the hand is not all'ogether unobjecl'ionable from a hygienic point oi. \v, the operation of these older ornis of machine both troublesome anal aligning, as a great amount of friction is 'ri lucecl in pushing ihe piece on the sup hurting surfaces. and a proportionatelylarge force is hence necessary to move the piece.
Rumor-cling to this invention, the (lelects referred to a1" avoided by lhe piece being elcl in a frame -which is capable of being ,i'or the piece to be sliced, because the latier is freely suspended by lhe holding device. Moreover iherc a guarantee that lhe izhichness of the slice will always remain the same and moreover the production of Waste is; practically out of the question.
ln the accompanying drawing is illustrated one embodiment of the present inveniion.
In this (l 'avving; Figure 1 is an elevation, l 2 a sectional view on the line AA in Fig. l, and Fig. 3 a sectional view on lhe line l) l? in Fig. '1. Fig. l shows a (lelail.
On the frame. a. of the machine the circular cutter Z) which is revoluble on a verl'ical shaft is mounted, lhe lati'er receiving its motion by means of the iul'ermeiliale bevel. Wheels 1., from the flywheel {Z which prov Bi l will: a handle. The frame a has four PlllfilS a, serving as supports for two parallel rods f, f, the latter-serving as guides for the carriage g. The carriage g essentially consists of a vertical plate, which guided on the rod f by means of the two 7i, 7: and on the rod by means of a. cross-bracket 2', furnished with a roller L. F or pushing the carriage 9 along its guide rode, the former is provided with a horn clle on.
On the carriage g a plate is mounted, in such a manner as to be capable of moving up and clown thereon, grooves and tongues engaging therein being provided for this purpose and on this plaie the piece to be sliced can be firmly clamped by means of the lOOi'liECl bars 0, 0 and the curved cross-bar o'-' which is likewise toothed and adjustable on the saicl bars 0, 0. In this manner lhe.
)iere to be sliced is euspencled freely.
()n the carriage g a vertical revoluble screw secured against axial movement, is mounted, while "the plate a carries a ihreaded member Q which is in the form of a pivol'ecl lever. and. which is held in engagement with the screw 3) by means of-a spring. In this way when the screw 32 rotates the member Q moves correspondingly up or down in a slot in the carriage g, the plate a which holds the piece to be sliced moving in the same Way. This screw p receives its motion from a rai'chcl-Wheel '1'. fastened said screw, the pawl r of said ratchet-wheel being mounied on an arm 8 controlled by a spring and movable aboui the axis of the screw 2. This arm strikes against a pin 2 on the return movement of the carriage g, and in this Way ouch a. limited movement of ihe ratchet-wheel r and the screw 1) occurs, that ihe pla'le '22, holding l'he piece for slicing is lowered to 'l'he desired extent of one sliceihicknees. The pin 2 is ailjuslable in a guide a, so that its efi'eciive lenglh can be adjusted to correspond Wll'll the desired slicethickness'. During; the forward movement of the carriage g there is no forward feed of the plate n and the piece to be sliced.
In frontv of the circular cutter b and parallel to it, a table 1: arranged, and prov'ikleil Will! means for enabling it to be raised and lowered. When a piece is to be clamped in posil'iou for being elicecl one fable '1 is first of all raised to its highest position, when ilsupper surface is in the same plane the upper surface of the circular cutter Z. the piece for slicing is then set in position on The table 1 and thereupon clamped by means Elli oi. the cross-bar 0*. The piece thereby takes up the correct position and consequently no waste at the beginning ot the slicing operation can occur.
Before commencing the slicing operation the table o is lowered into its lowest position, so that all. contact with the-piece is avoided, the latter being held simply by be ing clamped on the plate as. To carry out the slicing of the piece, the carriage 9 then only requires to be pushed to and fro on its guide rode, a slice being out 01? at each for" Ward movement, and the piece being automatically lowered to the extent of a slice thickness at each return movement. In ordcr to return the plate a into its initial position after the piece has been cut up, it is only necessary to disengage the threads on the member a from the screw 79 by moving the projecting end of said member and then to push up the plate.
Having now described. my invention I declare that What ll desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
