This invention relates to paper cutting machines, and gauges and carriers therefor, wherein a knife for cutting or trimming material, such, for example, as sheets of paper bound or unbound, is mounted 1n movable relation to a feed table or bed, and a gauge or means for positioning the material or for enabling the paper to be placed andremovably held in position to be operated upon, and a carrier for receiving and carrying or delivering the cut paper from the knife, are employed, or wherein such a carrier is provided which is adapted to be employed for carrying or delivering the cut paper from the knife either with or without a gauge as the case may be.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a simple, economical and eflicient paper cutting machine, and more particularly, to provide an improved paper carrier adapted to be employed and, by preference, operatively connected with the knife or knifeoperating mechanism of a. paper cutting machine, for carrying or receiving and F delivering cut paper which has been operated upon by the knife.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved carrier adapted to be employed for receiving and carrying or delivering paper which has been operated upon by the knife of a paper cutting machine and means for operatively connecting such carrier with the knife, and, by preference, with the gauge mechanism of such a machine.
A further object of the invention is to provide a paper cutting machine having a movable knife and a paper-supporting feed table extending forward of the knife, with a carrier or delivery table mounted back of and adapted to receive and carry out paper from the knife, driving mechanism operatively connected with the knife, adjustable gauge mechanism operatively connected with the driv'ng mechanism for operating the knife and adapted to be employed for positioning the paper with respect to the knife, carrier table-operating means connected with the carrier table and adapted to be operatively connected with said driving means, and automatic stopping and releasproved carrier table and the ing means connected with the carrier table operating means and, by preference, operatively connected with the adjustable gauge mechanism and with the knife 0 crating or driving mechanism, or knife, w ereby the movements of the carrier table are regulated and coordinated with respect to predetermined movements of the knife, so that the cut paper may be received upon the carrier table and carried from the knife upon the coznpletion of any desired predetermined cu Other and further objects of the invention will. appear from the following description and claims, and from an inspection of the accompanying drawings which are made a part hereof.
The invention consists in the features, combinations, details of construction, and arrangement of parts herein described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings- Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of a paper cutting machine having an upwardly and downwardly movable knife, and driving mechanism for operating the knife, and provided with adjustable gauge mechanism or paper-positioning means, for positioning the paper with respect to the knife and with a carrier table adapted to receive cut paper from the knife, said carrier beingllocated back of the knife and being provided with automatic stopping and releasing means operatively connected with the adjustable gauge mechanism and with the knife-operating mechanism, all constructed and adapted to operate in accordance with my invention;
Fig. 2 is a plan view showing my imfeed table, and parts of the knife and knife guard, with parts of the carrier table and feed table and frame broken away and other parts of the machine omitted, for the purpose of clearly showing the mechanism for operating, and for automatically stopping (and releasing the carrier table and operatively connecting the same with the knife-operating means;

' n constructing an improved paper cutting machine provided with a carrier for receiving and carrying or delivering cut paper from the knlfe, and, by preference,
provided with means for operatively connecting such carrier with the knife, and with the gauge mechanism or gauge-adjusting or holding mechanism of a paper cutting or trimming'machine, in accordance with my invention, I provide a aper-cutting machine 1 having a main fi ame 2, a
feed-table orpaper-supporting bed 3, a re ciprocating upwardl and downwardly movable knife or cutter 4, which is located above the level of and extends transversely across and in movable relation to the feed table 3 and machine frame, said knife being slidably supported between upright frame ortions or vertical guidin ways 5, formed y op osite upright side rame members 6 locate on op osite sides of the feed table and machine rame and forming a part of said frame. The knife or cutter -4 is mounted in and movable u ward and downward with a pair of sli able knifesupporting and guiding members 7 which are located on opposite sides of the frame and feed table and between and in vertically slidable engagement with said upright guides or ways 5.
The knife is not only movable upward and downward with the knife-supporting members 7, but is also movable transversely with respect to said supporting members 7 and the machine frame, so that the path of movement of the knife is oblique with respect to the feed table .or bed, but in a vertlcal plane transverse to the bed.
The knife or cutter 4 is operatively connected with suitable knife-operating mechanism which may be of any ordinary and well known or suitable form, and may comment with a pinion 18 on the motor shaft 19.
Suitable clutch mechanism 20, which may be of any ordinary and well known or desired form, is provided, for operatively conmeeting the knife and knife-operating or driving mechanism with the motor or source of ower, and for disconnecting the same.

The mechanism above described maybe of any desired ordinary and'well known or suitable form. The paper-cutting machine shown in the accompanying drawings is constructed as shown 1n my ap lication for Letters Patent of the United tates Serial No. 734,726, filed August 28, 1924, for improvements in aper cutting machines.
My improved gauge mechanism and carrier or delivery mechanism for receiving and carrying or delivering the cut paper from the knife, and the means for operastop mechanism with each other and with the knife, are intended and adapted to be attached to or used in connection with various forms of paper-cutting machines. Such machines being in common use and well known, it is deemed unnecessary to 'tively connecting the carrier and gauge or shown in my pending application Serial No. 57,427, filed September 19, 1925, for an improvement in paper cutting machines and gauges therefor, and is constructed, by preference, as follows:

On the adjustable transverse gauge 25 is a head 26 which is slidably mounted in adjustable engagement with the gauge guide which is fixed to and forms a part of the adjust-able gauge 25, is a laterally projecting stop finger 32 which is supported and'connected with the part 26 by means of a horizontal pivot 33 and provided with an end portion 34 which is adapted to serve as a handle for enabling the operator to operate the stop. The outer stop-engaging end of the stop finger 32 is cut away so as to form an inclined or wedge-like end portion 35 which is adapted to permit the stop finger 32 to pass one or more stops 36, 37, 38, respectively, as the stop finger 32 is moved with the gauge 25in one direction, but will act to cause said finger 32 to engage and be stopped by any one or more of said stops 36, 37, 38 whenever such stationarystop or stops are set or adjusted into position to operatively engage or extend into the path of movement of said stop'finger and the latter is moved in an opposite direction.
The stationary adjustable stops 36, 37, 38of which there may be any desired number, and of which a set or series of three are shown in the drawing:are adjustably mounted upon a stop-supporting and operating rock shaft 39, which is rockingly or to tatively mounted in suitable bearings on the machine frame, one end of said shaft being supported by a bracket 40, and the other by a suitable support, such, for example, as an upright frame member 6.
Each of the gauge stops 36, 37, 38, is, by preference, adapted to be adjusted or moved to and releasably secured in different adjusted positions both lengthwise and circumferentially of said shaft or rocking stopsupporting member 39. And said shaft 39 is adapted to be rocked or rotated intermittently or in a step by step manner in one .on the transverse gauge for setting or moving the stops direction,
into position to successively engage and stop the stop finger 32 on the adustable transverse gauge 25, in any desired or predetermined order, and in an opposite direction to cause said stops to be returned to initial position out of the path of movement of the stop finger 32. j
The stop fingers or gauge stops 36, 37, and 38 are adjustable with respect to one another both circumferentially and longitudinally of the shaft 39 on which they are supported and with which they are adapted to rock For example, the forward stop 36 is adjustable circumferentially'relatively to the shaft 39 intoposition to be the first of said series of stops to move into and stop in the path of movement of the stop finger 32 on the adjustable gauge 25, thus causing said gauge 25 to be stopped in the proper position for positioning the paper with respect to the knife for the first cut.
The rear stop 38 is adjustable circumferentially with respect to the rock shaft 39 into position to cause saidrear stop 38 to be the second one of the series of stops to move into and stop in the path of movement of the stop finger 32 on the adjustable gauge 25, thus causing said gauge 25 to be stopped in proper position for ositioning the paper with respect to the kni e, for the second cut.
The intermediate stop 37 is adjustable circumferentially of the shaft 39 into position to cause said intermediate stop to be the third one of the series'of stops to move into and stop in the path stop finger 32 on the gauge 25, thus causing said adjustable gauge 25 to be stopped in proper position for positioning the paper with respect to the knife, for the third cut.
Or said stops 36, 37, 38 may be adjusted circumferentially of the rock shaft 39 into any desired positions relatively to each other, so as to cause said stops to engage the stop finger 32 in any desired order, thus enabling the adjustable gauge 25 to be stopped in position to cause the paper to be cut or trimmed along any of the margins thereof in any desired order, or tobe cut into sheets as desired.
Means is provided for rotating or rocking the stop-supporting shaft 39 intermittently or in a step-by-step manner in one direction to automatically move the gauge stops on said shaft into position to stop in the path of movement of the stop finger 32 25, so as to stop said gauge in different predetermined positions successively in the desired predetermined order, according to the positions of said gauge stops on the shaft 39, said stops having been first adjusted and secured in the proper positions relatively to each other lengthwise and circumferentially of the of movementof the Ill . 49 and bell crank 51, serves to return the bell.

And means for automatically returning the stop-supporting shaft 39 and the gauge stops thereon,.to initial position is also provided, although the shaft 39 is capable of bein rotated manually in either direction, as desired, thereby causing the stops on said shaft to be moved into and away from gauge-stopping position.
The stop-supporting and operating shaft 39 is, by preference, provided with a toothed ratchet wheel 48 fixed thereto in close proximity to the vertically movable slide 7 which supports and guides and moves upward and downward with the knife 4, said slide 7 being connected with and operated by the pitman mechanism or knife-operating mechanism above described.
A reciprocating pawl 49 having a toothed or hooked end portion adapted to engage the teeth-of the ratchet wheel 48'is pivotally mounted .on a depending arm 50 of a bellcrank lever 51, which is supported on a pivot pin 52 on a stationary frame portion, such, for example, as a bracket 53 on an upright side frame member 6, or other suitable support.
The bell crank lever 51 has a lever arm 54 which is disposed at an angle to the depending lever arm 50 and adapted to be operatively engaged and operated by a projecting boss 55, or similar crank-operating means on the vertically movable slide 7; or the boss may be connected with and adapted to move upward and downward with the knife, by an suitable connecting means.
The slide with the boss 55, bell crank 51 and pawl 49 and ratchet wheel 48 thus serve as a means for operatively connecting the gauge stops 36, 37, 38 on the shaft 39 with the knife and knife-operating mechanism, so that the operation of the knife will cause the shaft 39 to rotate intermittently and actuate said gauge stops on said shaft thus causing the gauge stops to be moved into position to operatively engage and stop the stop-finger 32 on the adjustable gauge 25 in the required predetermined order.
The pawl 49 is operated in one direction by the bell-crank 51 when the knife 4 and knife-supporting slide 7 and boss 55 are at or near the position reached by the downward stroke of the knife. Each movement of the pawl in the direction required foroperating the ratchet wheel 48 will cause said ratchet wheel and the shaft 39 to rotate one step, each step corresponding with one ratchet tooth and with a required or predetermined adjusted position of the movable gauge 25 and a corresponding out. A spring 56 on the pin 52 which supports the pawl crank and pawl to initial position after each operation of the pawl and the shaft 39 by the downward movement of the knife.

The pin or boss 62 is adapted to be removably mounted in any desired or predetermined one of a series of perforations 63, 64,
65, 66, 67, of which there may be any desired number in said ratchet wheel. Each of said perforations corresponds with a tooth on the ratchet wheel, there being such a tooth and corresponding perforation for each adjusted position into which the movable transversegauge 25 is adapted to be moved for positioning the paper with respect to the knife for the various cuts.
A helical spring 68 is operatively connected with and adapted to rotatethe shaft 39 and the ratchet wheel and gauge stops fixed to said shaft, to initial position whenever the stopping and releasing awl 58 is raised to releasing position by t e pin 62 on the ratchet wheel. The detent 58 may be termed a latch. A latch-returning pin '69 on the ratchet wheel 48 is adapted to engage the arm or finger 61 of the latch 58 and return said latch to its initial position whenever the ratchet 48 and shaft 39 return to their initial position.
A spring-pressed bolt 7 O is mounted in a Socket 71 in position to engage one side of a shoulder 72 on the latch or detent 58, for holding said latch in engagement with the ratchet wheel; and said bolt 70 is adapted to engage the opposite side of said shoulder, for holding the detent 58 out of toothed engagement with the ratchet wheel 48 when the latter is released to permit it to return to initial position.
7 From the foregoing it will be readily seen that by mounting the releasing pin 62 on the ratchet wheel 48 in perforation 63 the latch 58 will be released for permitting the return of the shaft 39 and. the gauge stops thereon to initial position upon the completion of a predetermined out, for example, a first cut, by the downward movement of the knife; that by mounting said pin in another perforation of the series of erforations, for example perforation 64, t e latch 58 will be released upon the completion of another cut, for example, the second cut; and that by mounting the pin 62 in still another perforation, for example, perforation 65, the latch or detent 58 will be engaged and released for permitting the shaft 39 and the gaugestops thereon, to return to initial position till and forward back of upon the completion of a third cut, and so on for as many cutting operations as may be desired. I provide a carrier or delivery table which is ivotally supported upon or hin ed'to the main frame of the machine an adapted to swing inward transversely the knife into position to receive and carry the cut paper from the knife and deliver it back of t e knife and at one side of the machine in sition to be either removed from the carrier or delivery table manually, or to be deposited u ii an endless conveyor or other receptac enot shown -which may be of any desired ordinagy and well known or suitable form.

A suitable support for said carrier or delivery table is provided which may comrise a sup ortin bracket or frame member 76 located ack o the knife and at one side of the main frame of the machine to which said bracket is secured by means of bolts or other suitable securing means. A laterally projectin arm or hinge member 77 fixed to and a apt-ed to swing with the carrier or delivery table 75 is pivotally supported upon an upright pivot pin or pint e 8, which pivot pin is rotatively mounted in a vertical bore or opening in an upright sleeve or socket member 79 on or forming an integral part of the bracket 76. The upright pivot pin or pintle 78 is fixed, at its upper end, to the arm 77 on the carrier table 75; and fixed to the lower end of said pin' below and outside of the lower end of the sleeve portion 79 of the supporting bracket 76 is a lever arm or crank arm 80.
The crank arm 80 is provided with a crank pin 81 which is adapted to serve as a means for operating the crank and the upright pivot or crank shaft 78 which forms the vertical axis upon which the flat-topped carrier or delivery table 75 is supported and adapted to swing. Said carrier or delivery table is provided with a set of upright adjustable stops or gauges 82, 83, which are adjustably mounted in suitable supports 84 each of which may be mounted in a suitable opening 85 in the carrier or delivery table. Each stop-support 84 is provided with a horizontal opening through which extends a horizontal arm 86 fixed to a corresponding stop or gauge 82 or 83; and set screws 87 in the respe"tive stop- supports 82, 83 are adapted to engage and hold the arms 86 in operative position. The stops or gauges 82 are thus adapted to engage and hold the paper in position upon the carrier or delivery table during t e swinging movements of the latter.

A connectin rod 88 is operatively connected with t e crank 80 on the upright crank shaft or ivot 78, by suitable connecting means w ich may be of any desired ordinary and well known form, such, for example, as a air of pivotally connected members 89 and 90, one of said members 89 being secured to the end of the connecting rod 88 and having forked arms 91 between which the other connecting member or bearing block extends, said bearing block 90 being loosely mounted on the wrist pin 81 and connected with the forked connecting member 89 by means of a horizontal pivot pin 92. The opposite end of the connecting rod 88 is operatlvely connected with a rotative crank shaft 93 which is journaled in suitable bearings in the frame of the machine and provided with a crank arm or plate 94 WhlCll is, by reference, in the form of a segment of a circle and provided with a projecting stop shoulder or detent 95 thereon adapted to be engaged and released by suitable stopping and releasing mechanism which will be more fully hereinafter described. The connecting rod 88 is connected with the crank arm or plate 94 by means of a pair of pivotally connected members 96, 97, one of said connecting members 96 being attached to the end of the rod 88 and'having forked arms 98 between which the other connecting member or bearing block 97, which is ivotally mounted on the crank pin 99 on said crank arm 94, extends. The connecting members 96 and 97 are pivotally connected by means of a vertical pivot pin 100, the opposite ends of whi h :re supported in the forked arms 98. The desired flexibility of the connections between the opposite ends of the connecting rod 88 and the crank arms 80 and 94 is thus afforded.
Means is provided for operatively connecting the crank shaft 93 with the motor or source of power, which means is, by preference constructed and adapted to operate as follows:

and may be either connected with or form an extensionof the motor shaft 19, 1s rotatively mounted in suitable bearings 1n the main frame of the machine, and provided with a s ur gear wheel 102 fixed to sald ear wheel 102 ma form one crank shaft 93 and said shaft101 are operatively connected. For example, a relatively large spur ear wheel 103 is loosely mounted on the cran shaft 93, and means 1S provided for affording a frictional connection between the gear wheel 103 and said shaft 93. For this purpose I provide, by preference, a collar 104 which is fixed to and adapted to rotate with the shaft 93. Interposed between the collar 104 and the hub of the gear wheel 103 is a leather washer or friction member 105. In engagement with the op osite side of the hub or wheel 103 is a simi ar leather washer or friction disk member 106 which is interposed between said gear wheel 103 and a loose collar 107 which is loosely supported on theouter or extended end portion of the shaft 93. And a compression spring 108 is interposed between the collar 107 and an outer ring or collar 109 which is securely held in position upon said shaft by means of a headed bolt 110, or other suitable secur ing means.
An intermediate spur gear wheel 111 is rotatively mounted on a suitable support, such for example, as a stub shaft 112 on which said gear wheel is movable longitudinally of said stub shaft into and out of toothed engagement with the spur gear wheel 102 on the driving or constantly rotative shaft 101. A spur pinion 112'is fixed to the spur gear wheel 111 and is in cons'tant toothed engagement with the spur gear wheel 103 on the crank shaft 93, said spur pinion 112 being provided with elongated teeth which are adapted to permit the connected gear wheel and pinion 111, 112 to be moved or shifted so as to cause the gear wheel 111 to engage and disengage the gear wheel 102, as desired, without causing the pinion 112 to become disengaged from the gear wheel 103.
Means for shifting the gear wheel 111 and pinion 112 is provided, which may be of any desired well known or suitable form, such, for example, as a yoke 113 having forked arms 114 which straddle the shaft 112 and extend into a circumferential slot 115 in a slotted hub or collar 116 which is fixed to or may be formed in one integral piece with the spur pinion 112. A shifting rod 117 which is longitudinally movable, is mounted in parallel relation to the shaft 112 in a suitable support, such for example, as a side frame of the machine, and is adapted to be employed for shifting the gear wheel and pinion 111, 112, so as to cause the gear wheel 103 on the crank shaft 93 to be'operatively con- 7 nected with the gear wheel 102 on the shaft,
101, and disconnected therefrom, as desired.
Means is provided whereby the crank shaft 93, and thereby the carrier or delivery table 75, are operatively connected with the gau econtrollin mechanism for positioning t e paper, and with the knife, and whereby the rotation of said crank shaft 93 may be automatically stopped and released as required in order to cause the carrier or delivery table to be operated at the pro er times with respect to the operations of t I e knife and the completion of the desired or predetermined cuts. This stopping and releasing means is constructed an adapted to operate, by prefence, as follows:
An upright longitudinally movable stop rod 118 is mounted in suitable supporting bearings in the frame of the machine, and
has its u per end located in position to be M operative y engaged and operated by a curved peripheral segmental cam or eccentric 119 which is mounted on the rotative stopsupporting shaft 39 already described. The cam or eccentric 119 is, by preference, on and may be formed in one integral piece with the toothed ratchet wheel 48 already described. And an anti-friction roller 120 is interposed between the upper end of the rod and said cam.
Mounted in position to extend over the crank arm 94 on the crank shaft 93, and pivotally supported on a horizontal pivot pin 121 is a detent lever or pivoted stop arm 122, one end of which is flexibly connected with the upright rod 118, and the other end of which is provided with a hook or shoulder 123 which is movable into and out of the circular path of movement of the shoulder or stop on said crank arm 94. A similar lower detent lever or stop arm 124 is pivotally' mounted on a stationary pivot pin 125 in position to extend under said crank arm 94, one end of said pivoted detent or stop arm being pivotally connected with the upright rod 118 by means of a pivot pin 125. and the other end 126 of said stop arm 124 being movable into and out of the circular path of movement of the stop 95 on said crank arm 94. A compression spring 127 is interposed between the lower end of the upright stop rod 118 and a stationary supporting bracket 128, and is adapted to constantly tend to press said stop rod upward and to form a yielding support for said stop rod, whereby the rod is adapted to be moved-upward when released from engagement with the cam 119, and is permitted to be moved downward by said cam when the latter is operated a sufficient number of times to cause it to engage the stopping and releasing rod 118.
From the foregoing it will be readily understood that when the ratchet wheel 48 and cam 49 and upright stoppin and releasing rod 118, and the means fbr operatively connecting the ratchet wheel with the knife or knifc-operating mechanism are in initial position as shown in full lines in Fig. 3, and the carrier table 75 is in its initial position as shown in broken lines in Fig. 2, and the other parts of the machine in a corresponding initial or normal osition, "the first downward movement 0 the knife 4 and the knife-operating or carrying member 7 and stop 55 on said part 7 will cause the ratchet wheel 48 and its cam 119 to rotate one step corresponding with one ratchet tooth at the completion of the first cut. The next downward movement of the knife and the stop 55 will cause the ratchet wheel 48 to move another step and complete the second cut; and the next downward movement of the knife will cause said ratchet wheel and the cam 119 to move another step and complete the third cut, causing the cam 119 to engage the stop rod 118 and move it downward to the position shown in Fig. 4, thereby releasing and permitting the carrier table 75 to swing from its initial position shown in broken lines in Fig. 2 to its forward or paper-receiving position adjacent to and immediately back ofthe knife, as shown in full lines in Fig. 2. In case the releasing pin 62 is in opening 64 as shown in said Figs. 3 and 4, the completion of the third cut- Will thus cause the pin 62 to release the latch 58. I
The next upward movement of the knife will thus permit the ratchet wheel 48 and cam 119 to be automatically rotated back to their initial position causing the stop rod 118 to be released and permitted to move upward to its initial raised position, and permitting the carrier table to swing back from its forward paper-receiving position shown in full lines in Fig. 2 to the broken line position shown in said figure.
By having the tripping and releasing pin 62 in some other one of the openings-for example. opening 65, instead of in opening 64, the upward movement of the knife on the completion of the fourth cut or knife stroke will release the carrier table and cause it to swing from its forward paper-receiving position shown in full lines in Fig. 2 to its delivering position shown in broken lines in said figure, the carrier table having been permitted to move forward from initial to paper receiving position as shown in full lines in Fig. 2, at the completion of the downward movement of the knife on the third cut, and remaining in its forward paper-receiving position during the fourth downward movement of the knife and until released simultaneously with the fourth upward movement of the knife. The carrier table can thus be caused to move sychronously with respect to any desired predetermined movements of the knife; and the movements of the carrier table are thus controlled and coordinated with respect to the movements or any desired or predetermined movements of the knife, or with respect to any desired or predetermined cuts, or positions of the paper-positioning gauge mechanism, which correspond with t io movements of the knife in making such cuts. The operator is thus never required to reach under the knife. And the carrier table is automaticall operated so as to receive paper from the knife and carry it away from the knife upon the completion .of any desired or predetermined cut. The carrying away of the cut pa er from the knife may thus be accomplis ed automatically upon the completion of the second, third, fourth, or fifth cut, or any desired cut, as required.

In a paper cutting machine, the combination of a movable knife, a feed table extending forward of the knife and adapted to support paper in position to be operated upon y the same, a reciprocatory pa rsup orting carrier table mounted back 0 the kni e and adapted to swing upon a vertical axis toward and from the knife, for supporting and carrying out paper from the knife, find means for operating said carrier mem- 2. In a paper cutting machine, the combi nation of a movable knife, a feed table extending forward of the knife and adapted to support paper in position to be operated upon by the same, a paper-supporting carrier table movably mounted back of and adapted to receive and carry cut paper from the knife, and carrier-operating means connected with the carrier table and acting to regulate and coordinate the operations of the same with respect to ,the'movements of the knife.
3. In a papericutting machine, the combination of a movable knife, a feed table ex tending forward of the knife and adapted to support paper in position to be operated upon by the same, a paper-supporting carrier table movably mounted back of and adapted to receive and carry out paper from the knife, and carrier-operating means connected with the carrier table and o eratively connected with the knife and adapted to regulate and coordinate the timing tions of the carrier table the movements of the knife.
4. In a paper cutting machine, the combination of a movable knife, a feed table extending forward of the knife and adapted to support paper in position to be operated upon by the latter, a paper-supporting carrier table movably mounted back of and adapted to receive and carry out paper from the knife, means for operating the knife, and' carrier-operating means connected with the knife-operating means, and adapted to move of the operawith respect to the carrier table toward and from the knife.
5. In a paper cutting machine, the combination of a movable knife, a feed table extending forward of the knife and adapted to support paper in position to be operated upon by the latter, a paper-supporting carrier table movably mounted back of and adapted to receive and carry cut paper from the knife, means for operating the knife,
and automatic carrier-operating means connected with the carrier table and operatively connected with the knife and adapted to regulate and coordinate the operations of the carrier table with respect to the movements of the knife.
6. In a paper cutting machine, the combination of a movable knife, a feed table extending forward of the knife and adapted to support paper in position to be operated upon by the knife, a reciprocatory papersupporting carrier table movably mounted back of the knife and adapted to swing upon a vertical axis toward and from the knife, for receiving and carrying out paper from the knife, means for 0 rating the knife, and means for operating t e carrier table.
7 In a paper cutting machine, the combination of a movable knife, a paper-sup orting feed table extending forward 0 the knife, a. reciprocatory paper-supporting carrier table movably mounted back of the knife, carrier-operating means operatively connected with the carrier table, for moving the latter toward and from the knife, means for operatively connecting the carrier-opcrating means with the knife, and means for operating the knife.
8. In a paper cutting machine, the combination of a movable knife, 21 paper-supporting feed table extending forward of the knife, adjustable gauge mechanism for positioning paper on the feed table with respect to the knife, a reciprocatory paper-supporting carrier table movably mounted back of the knife, carrier-operating means connected with the carrier table, and operatively connected with the adjustable gauge mechanism, and means for operating the gauge mechanism and knife.
9. In a paper cutting machine. the combination of a movable knife, a feed table extending forward of the knife and adapted to support paper in a position to be operated upon by the knife, a reciprocatory papersupporting carrier table movably mounted back of and adapted to receive and carry out paper from the knife, means for operating the knife, automatic power-driven operating means connected with the carrier table, for moving the same toward and from the knife, and automatic stopping and releasing means operatively connected with said power-driven carrier-operating means and adapted to stop and release the carrier table.
10. In a paper cutting machine, the com- .mcchanism connected with the carrier table,
for moving the same toward and from the knife, and automatic stopping and releasing means operatively connected with said carrier table and with the kn'fe and adapted to stop and release the carrier table.
11. In a paper cutting machine, the combination of a movable knife, a feed table ext-ending forward of the knife and adapted to support paper in position to be operated upon by the knlfe, a reciprocatory paper- 'supporting carrier table movably mounted back of and adapted to receive and carry cut paper from the knife, means for operating the knife, power-driven operating means connected with the carrier table, for moving it toward and from the knife, and automatic stopping and releasing means operatively connected with said power-driven carrier table operating means and with said knifeoperating means, for stopping and releasing the carrier table operating means and carrier table.
12. In a paper cutting machine, the combination of a movable knife, a feed table extending forward of the knife, for supporting paper in position to be operated upon by the same, a carrier table movably mounted back of and adapted to receive and carry out paper from the-knife, means for operating the knife, power-driven operating means connected with the carrier table, for moving the same toward and from the knife, a cam operatively connected with and adapted to be operated by said knife-operating means, and stopping and releasing means opcratively connected with said carrier table operating means and with said cam and adapted to be operated by the said cam, for stopping and releasing the carrier table operating means and carrier table.
13. In a paper cutting machine, the combination of a movable knife, a feed table extending forward of the knife, for supporting paper in position to be operated upon by the knife, a paper-supporting carrier table movably mounted'back of and adapted to receive and carry out paper from the knife, means for operating the knife, a continuously rotative driven shaft adapted to be operatively connected with a source of power, reciprocating carrier-table operating means connected with sa d carrier table, for operating the same intermittently, and
means for intermittently connecting said reciprocating carrier table operating means with and disconnectlng the same from said continuously rotatlve driven shaft.

In a paper cutting machine, the combination of a movable knife, a paper-su porting feed table extending forward of t e knife, a reciprocatory paper-supportin carrier table movably mounted back 0 and adapted to receive and carry cut paper from the knife, means for operating the knife, a continuously rotative driven shaft connected with the knife-operating means, reciprocating carrier-table operatin means connected with the carrier table an operatively connected with and adapted to be intermittently operated by said continuously rotative driven shaft, and automatic stopping and releasing means connected with said reciprocating carrier-table o crating means, for stopping and releasing t e carrier table.
16. In a paper cuttin machine, the combination of a movable 'fe, a paper-suglalerting feed table extending forward of t e ife, a reciprocatory paper-supportin carrier table movably mounted ack o and adapted to receive and carry cut paper from the knife, means for operating the knife, adjustable gauge mechanism, for positioning paper on the feed table with respect to the .knife, carrier-table operating means connected with the carrier table and operatively connected with and adapted to i be operated by the knife-operating means, and automatic stopping and releasing means connected with the said carrier-table operating means and operatively connected with and adapted to be operated by the knifeoperating means, for stopping and releasing the carrier table.
17. In a paper cutting machine, the combination of a movable knife, a paper-sup lporting feed table extending forward of t nife, a reciprocatory paper-supportin carrier table movably mounted back 0 and adapted to'receive and carry out paper from the knife, driving mechanism operatively connected with the knife, for operating the same, adjustable gauge mechanism operatively connected with said driving mechanism, for positioning paper upon the feed table with respect to the knife, carrier-table operating means connected with the carrier table and adapted to be operativel connected with said driving means, an automatic stopping and releasin means connected with said carrier ta le operatin means and operativel connected with sai adjustable gauge mec anism and with said knife-operating driving mechanism, whereby the movements of the carrier table are regulated and coordinated with res ct to predetermined movements of the kni e.
