Be it known that I, HERMAN C. SwENsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fly-Paper Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descrip* tion of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it apperta-ins to make and use the same.`
My invention has for its object to provide an improved holder especially adapted for use in holding a sheet of sticky fly paper, and to this end, the invention consists of the novel devices and combinations of devices hereinafter described and defined in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the invention, like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of the improved holder; Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the same; Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the improved device, with some parts sectioned, on the line w3 x3 of u Fig. 1; Fig. 4 is a detail view on an enlarged scale, in section, taken on the line m4 004 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 5 is a detail view on an enlarged scale, in section, taken on the line m5 .fc5 of Fig. 1.
The numeral 1 indicates a flat and horizontally extended bed plate, as shown, preferably made from a single sheet of metal and adapted to support upon its upper face la sheet of sticky fly paper Z. Suitable means are provided for supporting the bed plate 1 by first bending its longitudinal edges under upon themselves and then downward to form vertically and downwardly extended side flanges 2. These side flanges are connected at their ends and intermediate portions by means of cross bars 3, which form additional supports for the bed plate 1. The horizontally projecting edges of the bed plate 1 afford convenient hand holds by which the improved holder may be carried from place to place without coming in contact with the fly paper Z supported thereon.
Spring-pressed clamps 4 are secured one to each end of the bed plate 1 and for cooperation therewith, to detachably hold the fly paper Z in place. The clampsl 4 are, as shown, preferably made from sheet metal bent into the form of angle bars with their vertical flanges secured to the outer vertical faces of the end bars 3 for limited vertical movements, by means of slot and pin connections 5. The horizontal flanges of the vclamps 4 are arranged to project inward and overlie and normally rest upon the adjacent surfaces of the bed plate l. To more securely hold the fly paper Z in position on the bed plate 1, the horizontal flanges of the clamps 4, along their outer edges, are provided with a plurality lof short downwardly projecting barbs 6 normally seated in depressions 7 formed in the bed plate 1.
Springs 8 are secured to the end bar 3 and with their free ends engaging intermediately located and inwardly projecting lugs 9 integrally formed on the vertical flanges of the clamps 4 and yieldingly hold said clamps in their operating positions. Interposed between the vertical flanges of each clamp 4 and the adjacent end bar 3 is mounted a lever 10, and which lever is intermediately pivoted to one of the pins of the slot and pin connections 5. The inner ends of t-he levers 10 are arranged to engage the under intermediate surfaces of the horizontal flanges of the clamps 4 and their outer ends project beyond the sides of the bed plate 1 and are provided with finger pieces 11. As is evident, by pressing the linger pieces 11 downward, the inner ends of the levers 10 will cam the clamps 4 vertically upward and withdraw the barbs 6 from the depression 7 into a position above the bed plate 1, so that a sheet of fly paper Z may be' inserted or removed from between the clamps 4 and the bed plate 1. As soon as the levers 10 are released, the barbs 6 will pierce the sheet of fly paper and the clamps 4 will be brought into engagement with the ily paper.
What I claim is:
1. In a device adapted to hold sticky fly paper, the combination with a bed plate, of clamping bars cooperating with said bed plate and normally resting thereon, means connecting said clamping bars to said bed plate with freedom for movements to and from operative positions, springs yieldingly holding said clamping bars in their normal positions, and levers for camming said bars into inoperative positions.
2. In a device adapted to hold sticky fly paper, the combination with a bed plate, of angle bar' clamps having downwardly projecting barbs on their horizontal flanges that are normally seated in depressions in said bed plate, slot and pin Connections connecting the vertical flanges of said clamps to said bed plate With freedom for vertical movements, and springs normally holding said vertical flanges onto said bed plate.
