Referring to the acompanying drawings by numerals it will be seen'that the im proved bed has been shown as including an} upright, substantially rectangular i open front casing 7 but it will of course, be readily understood that the same may be an 'alcove of a room. With this arrangement it will be clear that the force opposing the outward swing of the bed increases as the bed swings outward so that the bed will be gradually lowered to the floor. To return the bed to the casing 7 it will be seen that the pivotal movement of the bed lowers the bracket ear 85 and all of the weights 24* are pushing down on the rod 30. The pressure of the weights on the rod continues until the bed is within the casing 7, at which time all of the weights except the lower one are suspended on the pins 23. The weights 24 are'such that they exactly counterbalance the bed without heavy bedding, and to compensate for the additional weight of such bedding, auxiliary weights :36 are slidable on the rods 21 above the weights 2%. The auxiliary weights 36 are smaller than the weights 2% and may be locked against movements on the rods 21 when their use is not desired by means of the thumb screws 37.

What I claim as my invention, is

1. A folding bed comprising a casing,

a weight frame therein, guide rods in said frame, a plate in said frame between said rod, vertical rows of laterally projecting pins carried by said plate, weights slidable on said rods and provided with rear grooves into which said pins project, one groove of each weight being provided with an abutment for limiting the movements of the weights in one direction, a rod fastened to the lowermost weight and slidable through said frame, a bed pivotally connected to said casing, a bracket ear carried by said bed, and a link connection between said ear and said weight rod '2.'A folding bed comprising a casing,

guide rods therein, bed counterbalancing weights slidable on said rods, means for controlling said weights to regulate their counterbalancing actions, a bed pivotally mounted in said casing, auxiliary weights slidable on said rods for use in counterbalancing extra weight on the bed, and means for looking said auxiliary weights to said rods.
