COMBINED CURRYCOMB AND CLEANER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application fi1ed June 3, 1911.
Patented Jan. 9,1912.
Serial No. 631,151.
. a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a new and useful curry comb.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a novel form of cleaner for efliciently and thoroughly removing the dirt, hair, &c., from the teeth of the comb.
A further object of the invention is to improve generally the construction of curry combs.
The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth shown in the drawings, and claimed.
In the drawings :-Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a curry comb constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on line 3-3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a sectional view on line 44 of Fig. 1, taken through the hinge between the curry comb and the cleaner. Fig. 5 is a detail view of the cleaner, detached.
Referring more especially to the drawings 1 designates the curry comb, which is rectangular in contour, and provided with the usual handle 2, which is provided with a forked member 3 riveted to the curry comb, as shown at 4. The curry comb 1 is provided with the usual teeth 5 between which the cleaner 6 is arranged.
The cleaner 6 is rectangular in shape and comprises the end pieces 7 and 8, to which the cleaning bars 9 are riveted as shown at 10. Two of the bars 9 are provided with extending leaf lugs 11, which terminate into rolls 12, forming parts of the hinge 13 between the cleaner and the curry comb. The other parts 14 of the hinge are connected so as to cofiperate with the rolls 12 by means of the rod or bolt 15. Surrounding the rod or bolt 15 is a coil spring 16, one end of which is received by an opening 17 of one of the bars 9, and finally extended into a die pression 17 of the piece 7 thus anchoring one end of the spring. This end portion is also arranged between two lugs 18 and 19 of the end bar 7 of the cleaner, while the other end of the spring is arranged in any one of the apertures 19 of one of the parts 14 of the hinge. The object in providing more than one of the apertures 19 is to permit the spring to be tightened, when it becomes weak. Arranged on the rod or bolt 15, in order to hold the spring in place is a fiber sleeve 20.
The cleaner it will be observed is so connected to the curry comb that upon a reverse stroke, while currying a horse, the cleaner will be forced outwardly-of the teeth of the comb, by imparting a twisting jerk to the comb, and when the user starts the succeeding forward stroke, the cleaner has returned to its normal position, by the action of the spring.
From the foregoing it will be apparent that there has been devised a simple, novel and practical cleaner for curry combs, and one which has been found to be exceedingly useful, for it obviates the necessity of picking the hair and dirt from the comb.
The invention having been set forth, what is claimed as new and useful is In combination, a curry comb having teeth and provided with hinged members, a cleaner having hinge members, a bolt passing through the hinge members for connecting the cleaner hingedly to the curry comb, the cleaner having a pair of lugs and comprising a pair of end bars and a plurality of transversely extending fiat bars, one of the end bars having a depression, while one of the flat bars is provided with an opening registering with the depression, a spring coiled about the bolt having one end adjustably anchored to one of the hinge members of the curry comb, while the other end is extended downwardly and arranged between the lugs, the downwardly extending end of the spring terminating into an angle portion In testimony whereof I have signed my arranged in the opening, the angle portion name to this specification in the presence of having an upturned lug received by the depression, the opening, the depression and the 5 lugs constituting means to prevent displacement of the downwardly extending end of the spring.
