ADJUSTABLE TROUSERS-GUARD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 9, 1912.
Application filed August 12, .1911. Serial No. 643,'75.
citizen of the United States, residing at 'Temple, in the county of Comanche and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new'and useful Improvements in Adjustable 'lrousers-Guards, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in adjustable trouser guards, and is especially designed for use by riders of bicycles, motorcycles and like vehicles and has for its object to provide a device of this 'character which will possess advantages sive of manufacture and at the same time is simple in construction and operation.
Another object of the invention is to produce an adjustable guard which can be folded into a small space and be carried around in the pocket or other small space. With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device; Fig. 2 is aside elevation of the device applied; and Fig. 3' is a vertical sectional view. L A
Referring more particularly to the drawings l indicates the adjustable arm of the guard having the two spring clasps 2 hinged to each end thereof, said arm comprising an upper section 3 and a lower section 4 and a central section 5.
The central section *.5 is hinged to the upper end of the lower section 4 as shown at 6 and a spring catch 7 is provided to hold said sections in an upright position the collar on the section 34 to hold said sections in an adjusted position.
It will be seen from reference to Fig. 2 that :the lower spring clasp is engaged around the lower end of the trouser log while the upper clasp is engaged aroundthe legjust below the knee and on the calf of the leg. In order to hold the upper clasp member securely in place a coil spring 10 is provided having one end secured to one side of the open end of the clasp and the other end detachabl'y secured to the other side of the open end of the clasp by means of the snap 1l. This spring l0 is to be of such tension that it will not interfere or hurt the user in the least, while it serves to hold the trousers securely. The purpose of the adjustable arm l will be 'seen in Fig. l, which Ais to support and keep the upper clasp in position and also to keep the trouser fold securely in place.
It will be seen from the foregoing that I have provided a simple and durable adjust- `able trouser guard which can be easily and -quickly adjusted to any sized person and can be quickly'folded compactly to be carried in the pocket or other convenient place.
While I'have shown and described the preferred form of my invention it will be obvious that various changes in the details of construction and in the proportions for successfully carrying my invention into practice without sacrificing any of the novel features or departing from the scope of the claims. I
Having thus described the invention what is' claimed is 1.- A trousersC guard vembodying a longitudinally adjustable arm and a pair of subi stantially U-shaped leg-engaging clasps at the ends of said ar-m and each hinged thereto, the hinged connections between the clasps and the armbeing intermediate the ends of said clasps, and the pivotalxaxes of the clasps extending transversely across the said' arm so that the clasps may be turned atright angles tothe arm or extended in longitudinal alinement therewith.
2. In a device of the character described, the combination of a sectional adjustable arm, said arm comprising rigid lower, cen tral and upper sections, a hinged connection between said lotver and central sections,`
