Specification of Letters Patent.

Patented Dec. 5, 1911.

Application filed July 18, 1910. Serial No. 572,527.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ELIZABETH Soon, a subject of the King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at 5 Armath, Potterhill, Paisley, in the county of Renfrew, in that part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland called Scotland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ladies Hat- Fasteners, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing. My invention consists in improvements in fasteners for retaining, for the time being, ladies hats on the heads of their wearers.

In carrying my invention into effect to achieve the objects of rendering unnecessary the dangerous hat pin, and of enabling the hat to be adjusted in a comfortable manner and with security from removal by rough weather, I proceed substantially as follows, making reference to the accompanying drawing wherein,

Figure '1 shows a front view of the part for insertion into the hair, Fig. 2 a front view of the part to be attached to the brim or bandeau of the hat, and Fig. 3, a front view of the two parts cooperating for the purpose of my invention.

a is a detachable comb of metal, bone, celluloid or other suitable material or materials, and having a tongue or projection b upstanding from its back, the said tongue being preferably of the shape shown, that is, narrow waisted or narrower at its junction with the back than at its outer end.

0 is a bar of bone, celluloid, wire or other material, or materials, furnished at each end with means whereby it can be attached to the brim or bandeau of a hat, a very'convenient means being eyelets or loops at by which it can be stitched in its required position. One of the bars 0 is fastened at one side of the brim or bandeau of the hat, and another at the opposite side, and one of the combs a is inserted at each side of the hair.

In use, the hat is put on so as to insert the tongues 19 under the bars 0, and thus between the bars and the bandeau, in which position the hat is not only securely held against all kinds of weather, but is also permitted to be upwardly or downwardly adjusted on the tongue 6. I

What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In a fastening device for hats, the combination of a comb formed on the arc of a circle and adapted to enter the hair, a

tongue projecting from the back of the comb and being in the same curved plane therewith, the tongue being narrower at its juncture with the comb than at its outer extremity, and a resilient bar adapted to be attached to the hat for engaging the narrow portion of said tongue, substantially as described.
