This invention relates to fence post-s and one of its objects is to provide a composite post having a core provided with combined reinforcing and anchoring means which are partly exposed upon one face of the finished post and constitute means whereby a fence fabric may be readily attached to the post.

A still further object is to provide a core having one face thereof exposed along one face of the body of the post, said core being of a material into which staples and the like may be readily driven.

With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the accompanying drawings the preferred form of the invention has been shown.

Referring to the figures by characters of reference 1 designates the body of the post which may be of any desired contour and proportions and which is molded from concrete or the like. This body has a central core embedded therein and which has been indicated generally at 2. Said core is T- shaped in cross section, the flange 3 thereof being arranged with its outer longitudinal edge or face flush with the front face of the body 1 and provided with a longitudinal channel 4 in said exposed face. Openings 5 extend transversely through the flange at desired points and are adapted'to receive portions of the plastic material constituting the body so as to thus securely anchor the core to said body. around the core and extends across the channeled face of the core, the ends of the wire being attached to said core in any preferred manner, as by extending them through the terminal eyes or openings 5 and forming loops surrounding portions of the core. One of these loops has been shown at 7 in Fig. 3.

As has heretofore been stated, the core is anchored within the plastic body and extends longitudinally thereof, it being designed to first place the core and its Wire 6 in the mold after which the plastic material is poured around the core, leaving the channeled face of said core exposed and flush with the corresponding face of the post body.

In order to secure a fence fabric to the post, the same is placed upon that face of the post in which the channeled portion of the core is exposed and I then attach the fabric to the exposed portions of the wire 6 by means of tie wires a or the like extending into the channel 4. Should it be desired to nail boards or the like to the post, fastening devices can be readily driven into the exposed portion of the core.

The core used in the post, if made of wood, is treated with a suitable preservative, such as creosote, before the plastic material is molded therearound.

What is claimed is 1. A fence post including a wooden core, a plastic body molded about the core, one

longitudinal face of the core being exposed and having a fastener receiving channel, and means extending across the channel for receiving a fastener.

2. A fence post including a core, a plastic body molded about the core, said core having one face exposed without thebody, said face having a longitudinally extending fastener receiving channel, and a fastener receiving device wrapped about the core and extending across the channel.

3. A fence post including a core, a plastic body molded therearound, one face of the core being exposed, said face having a fastener receiving recess, and fastener receiving means extending across the recess and partly embedded in the body.

4. A fence post including a core, a plastic body molded therearound, one face of the core being exposed, there being a longitudinally extending fastener receiving channel within said face, and a wire Wrapped about channel and constituting fastener receiving means.

5. A composite fence post consisting of separate strips disposed at right angles to each other, one of these strips having a channeled face, a Wire Wrapped about said strips to hold them against relative displacement, said Wire extending across the channel, and a plastic body molded about the strips and Wire, the said strips constituting a core and the channeled face of the core being exposed, those portions of the Wire extending across the channel constituting means for receiving fasteners insertible into the channel.
