Description

waited ttttet THOMAS OOGSWELL, OF BOSTON, `MASSAOHUSETTSl Letters Patent N 0.100,985, dated March 22, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN CUFF-SUPPORTERS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters ljatent and making part of the same I, THOMAS CoGsWELL, of Boston, in the State of Massachusetts do hereby declare that the following description an accompanying drawings is an accurate and completevspecification of my invention oi' an Iniproved Cuff-Holder.
This invention is intended to support upon the arm false cuffs or wristbands.
It consists in arranging la. slotted metallic frame upon an elastic band, so that the band shall be readily adjustable to the size of the arm, and in combining therewith a 'fiat spiral clip, of thefform and function described in an application by me for Letters Patent now pending in the United States Patent Office.
In the drawings- Figure 1 is a perspective of the'apparatus.
Figure 2 is a plan-of the frame.
Figure 3 is a section ot' the clip.
A. is the clip. 1t is a at spiral of three limbs, the 'ont limb being formed'with an ogee curve on its face.
B is the frame. It is a rectangular piece of metal, having a slot, d e, near each end, and the centerl e11- tirely cut away. In other words it is a rectangular frame, crossed by two bars, as shown at q 71.
On one end of these bars, say g, are raised two teeth ff.
Upon this frarne is mounted clip A, and the elast-ic `band is adjusted by fastening the band on the teeth f, reeving it over bar g, downward and outward through slot d, then upward and inward through the center i, then backward over bar h, and downward `and outward through slot e.
This adjustment allows the. band to be loosened or tightened at will.
The teeth f f may be omitted, and the left-hand end of the band in fig. 1 maybe rove, as is the righthand end.
This method of mounting the clip A upon band O presents the advantages- First, that the band is adjustable in length.
Second, that the clip is not weakened by cutting.
Third, that it is very simple and easy of construction, and quite durable.
I claim as my invent-ion and Letters Patent- 'lhe arrangement upon frame B, slotted as described, of clip A, formed as described, when further arranged with adjustable elastic band C, al1 substantially as described, and for the purpose stated.
THOS. OOGSXVELL.
