TOILET-SEAT FOR CHILDREN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 28, 1911.
Application filed December 15, 1910. Serial No. 597,578.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARGARET L. HANDY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Caro, in the county of Tuscola and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toilet- Seats for Children; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention is an improvement in toilet seats and relates more particularly to an auxiliary seat to be used in connection with the ordinary toilet seat.
Une object of the invention is the provision with a folding auxiliary seat of a removably stitched pad adapted to be folded with the seat so it may be conveniently carried in a traveling bag, the seat and pad when folded taking up very little space.
"With these and certain other objects in view, which will appear later in the specification, my invention consists in the devices illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a top plan view of my improved toilet seat; Fig. 2 is a side View of the seat folded together; Fig. 3 is a side view of the same open; Fig. 4 is a sectional view through ac -m,- and Fig. 5 is a sectional view through y--y.
In traveling, or at hotels and other public places much difliculty is encountered by finding the seats not in condition for use, and the object of this invention is to provide a sanitary auxiliary seat which may be carried in the traveling bag and when used may be conveniently placed upon the toilet seat, being so constructed as to prevent the child using it from coming in contact with the toilet seat.
In the drawings, 1 and 2 are the two sections made of any suitable material, preferably aluminum, zinc or the like. These sections are hinged or otherwise secured together as at 3, so as to form a square. An
opening 4: is provided centrally with the sections. The inner edge 2 of each section is slightly turned down so as to make a smooth edge.
A pad 5 of any suitable material is provided, being shaped to fit the toilet seat. The pad is preferably stitched in the middle instead of the edges, so as to avoid scams at the edges of the pad. The seat sections are provided with suitable perforations 6 through which the padding may be stitched to the seat, as shown at '7. The pad, when stitched to the seat, projects slightly over the inner edge of the seat so as to overlap the rounded edge 2. The pad can easily be removed from the seat and another substituted, taking but a short time to fasten it to the seat.
In order that the sections may not come in contact with the toilet seat, I have provided suitable projections 8 at the corners underneath.
By my improved construction I have provided a toilet seat with a pad therefor, that is strong and durable, and one that is sanitary, and capable of being conveniently carried for use in traveling or in public places and the like.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
In combination, an auxiliary toilet seat formed of two hinged sections and with a central opening, the inner edges of said sections being rounded; the bodies of said sections formed with circularly arranged perforations; a circular pad removably stitched at its middle portion through said perforations, the free inner edge of said pad projecting over the inner rounded edge of said sections.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MARGARET L. HANDY.
