IMPROVED Murr' AND COLLAR-Box. m
` Know alimen that I, HENRY FowLEn, of Detroit,
' in the county of- Wayne, and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful `Ir'nprovement in Muff and `Collar-Boxes; and I do declare that the following is aA true and accurate description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, and beinga part of this l-'Ihe object of this intention is so to construct abox in which to keep muffa and collars thatthe smallest possible space may he taken up, and, at the same time,` allow the collar to be ,properly folded. Also, to so arrange a lining'to the inner side of cover as to prevent moths and insectsfrom gainingadmission to the furs in the box. y l l In order to accomplish this end, I construct a rectangular box, A','of proper size anddepth, in the center of which I place a circular box, B, to hold the muff.
At the top of the m11-box\B,I fasten a proper shelf, C, with -an, aperture through the `same `corresponding to the ,size of `the mudo-box. rIhis shelf is situated about two inches below the top of the rectantguiar box A, giving space enough to contain a fur coll. lar when properly folded up.
Upon the box A, I fit a proper cover, D, attached to whicl1,'around the upper corners, is fitted a padding,
E, of cloth, felting, or other suitable material, so that when the cover is placed-on the box, this padding, fitting the top ofthe box, prevents the ingress of insects, moths, &c. l ,y
The shelf C may bel composed of cedar, or any other suitable material, as well as the top of the box. The
top may he fastened to the box by any suitable rubber, or other suitable cord and button, or other device.
vis not Worn.
cover joins the body of the box.
I am aware thatboxes with partitionshave been made; but such boxesas heretofore constructed, do not furnish so safe and convenient a fur-set box as does my improvement.
It is wellknown'that a set of furs is a costly article of apparel, and one that for halt' the year, more or less, Hence, the importance of a box vor case in which to placev such articles, which willfully protect them against injury from vermin, moisture, andfrom dust. tion.
` rllhe pasteboard now employed for such boxes renders them both water and air-proof, except Where the That defect is remedied by my improvement of a packing to completely close the joint between the body ofV the box `and the cover.` The introduction of the cedar partition preventsvermn from seeking the box as a harbor or nest.
The construction and arrangement ot' mybox preserves `the several pieces of fur set against crumpling or other injury.
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Pat ent of the United States, is-
1. A fur-set box, A, composed of the cyliuderB and partition or shelf C, arranged as described.
2., The padding E, in combination with the cover D,
and box A, arranged so as to preserve a set of furs against the entrance of dust, as descrihed. y
