Description

No. 839,529. PATENTED DEC. 25, 1906 L. B.. WBISSBROD. CHANGE PURSE.
APPLIOATION FILED FEB.17, 1906.
Tnn STATES PATENT orrion.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 25, 1906.
Application filed February 17, 1906. Serial No. 301,591.
To aZZ whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LUTHER B. WVnrss- BROD, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Greenfield, in the county of Franklin and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Change-Purses, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to purses for change; and it has for its object to provide a structure that is simple in construction, reasonable in cost, and one that will securely hold the change without any danger of losing it therefrom.
Broadly, the invention consists of an envelop (preferably circular) and a container proper of the same shape for holding the change and located within the envelop, both parts having cut-away portions adapted to register when the container is rotated within the envelop, and means for locking the two parts together when the openings in the two cut-away portions are out of register.
In the drawings forming part of this application, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my change-purse, showing the cut-out portions in register, so that the user can readily gain access to the interior thereof. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the purse, showing the cut-outportions of the envelop and container turned so as to be out of register and the parts locked by means of the snap-fastener. Fig. 3 is a sectional view showing the construction of the fastening means for the envelop and container.
Referring to the drawings in detail, a designates what I term the envelop of the purse, which is cylindrical in form and has a cut-away portion 1) in the periphery thereof.
0 designates the two parallel end pieces of the cylindrical envelop, which are flexibly connected by means of the foldable gusset or bellows-like structure 6,, which will readily permit the two parallel end pieces 0 c to be pressed toward each other or separated, as readily understood.
6 designates the container as a whole for the change, and it is located within the envelop and made similarto the envelop, having the two circular end walls f unit ed by the gusset-piece g by stitching or otherwise, so as to move in unison with the movement of the end pieces 0 c of the envelop a. The container 6 also has a cut-away portion or open.- ing 7i in the periphery thereof, as shown. It
will therefore be seen that the container can gusset connecte be rotated within the envelop a, so as to bring the two cut-away ortions or openings 1) and h into register, as shown in Fig. 1.
In order to lock the parts a and 6 together after the change has been placed in the container e and the two cylindrical parts rotated relative to each other, as shown in Fig. 2, I provide a snap fastening device consisting of a stud i, secured to the container 6. Secured to the envelop a is a button j, with which the stud i is adapted to lock when the envelop and container are rotated, as shown in Fig. 2, to prevent the change from falling out. The structure of the button 7' is substantially the same as those used for fastening gloves together at the wrist portion thereof and does not need, therefore, to be described in detail in this case.
In order to indicate to the user when the stud '1', and button are in registering or locking position, I have placed a mark or line k on the container 6 and a corresponding mark or line m on the envelop a, as shown. The mark or line m is not necessary if the button 7' on the envelop a is placed close to the edge of the cut-away portion 1).
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
1. As an article of manufacture, an envelop having end walls, a flexible gusset connecting the walls, and having a portion thereof cut away, a container located within the envelop and ada ted for rotation,'a flexible to the walls of the container and having a cut-away portion whereby when the envelop and container are rotated relative to each other, the two cutaway portions may be placed in or out of register.
2. As an improved change-purse, a cylindrical part having a portion of each end piece cut away and in axial alinement, a gusset connecting the end portions of the cylinder, said cylindrical part constituting the envelop portion of the purse, a container within the envelop having two end walls with cut-away portions, and in axial alinement, a gusset connecting the end walls of the container,
and means for locking the envelop and container against accidental rotation. 1
8. A purse comprising two sets of diskshaped pieces, one of the sets of disks being cut away at the periphery thereof, each of the sets of disks being united for a portion of their peripheral distance by a foldable gus- ICC set portion, one of the so-united disks being cylindrical parts and having a cut-away porro nested within the other and having their tion in the two gusset portions adapted to be foldable gusset portions engaging each other, placed in registered and unregistered posiand means for locking the sets of disk-shaped tions relative to each other, and means for 5 pieces against accidental rotation. locking the parts in unregistering positions.
4. In an im roved change-purse, two ho1-' LUTHER B. WEISSBROD. low cylindrica parts, one loosely mounted Witnesses: Within the other, each part having a gusset W. W. WEISSBROD, portion connecting the end portions of the CHARLES N. STODDARD.
