NECKTIE-SUPPORT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed December 20, 1909. Serial No. 534,053.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK MILFORD Wnnswonrrr, a citizen of the United States,
residing at' Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented a certain new,and useful Improvement in Necktie-Supports, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to supports for neck-. ties, and has for its object the production of a device that will aid the wearer of the necktie in forming a knot and will afterward serve to maintain the knot and hold the necktie in its proper place on the collar.
The improved su port consists essentially of a short tubular ody, preferably of thin sheet-metal, having a lip depending from the top of the front side.
is a front view and Fi 3 a rear view of the supporter; Fig. 4 1s a central vertical section of the same on theline a2a: of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a transverse section on the line 22 of Fig. 3. And Fig. 6 is a plan view of the device.
The, device consists of a tubular body, designated 1, formed of thin but stiff sheetmetal or other suitable material. This body is shown as tapering somewhat from top to bottom and elliptical in cross-section, and such is the preferred shape, but it may be of equal diameter throughout and round, or of other suitable shape, if desired. A lip 2 is formed or secured at the upper front edge of the tube and bent down to position practically parallel with the side of the tube.
end (the narrower end, if the tie is of the four-in-hand kind) is passed downwardly through the tube a proper distance. If the end of the tie does not freely pass through the tube access to it through the slot 3 may be had to aid in pushing it onward. Then, after the tie has been placed around thecollar, the free portion is passed across the front of the support between it and the lip or hook 2, which prevents it from slipping upward, and then folded around the support and the free end passed through the loop downwardly in the usual way to form a knot, and the ends are then pulled to tighten the knot as much as desired. Tl manner of tying the knot is the usual one, the support aiding in making the knot Patented Oct. 3, 1911.
smooth and regular, and afterward serving to hold the tie up to its place and preventing the knot from loosening. It should be understood, of course, that after the knot is formed the supporting device is entirely covered and hidden by the folds of the knot. Having described my inventiongwhat I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- 1. A necktie support comprising a tubular body having a longitudinal slot in rear .portion and a hook provided on its upper front portion, said support being formed of a single piece of metal and being separable from and formed independently of the tie with which it is to be used.
2. A necktie support comprising a tapering tubular body having a diamond shaped closed longitudinal slot in its rear portion and a hook provided on its upper front portion, said support being formed of a single piece of metal and being separable from and formed independently of the tie with which it is to be used.
In testimony whereof; Ihave signed my name to this specification in the pres ce of two subscribin'gwitnesses this 19th ay of November, 1909.
FRANK MILFORD wlnswoani.
